Movies today are especially visually appealing and excel in special effects, and movies released around the 1950s or pre became classics and must watches. At the same time, there is also a set of movies that were released in the 1990s that may deserve your attention.
1. Forrest Gump (1994)
Released in 1994, Forrest Gump tells a tale of a man of the same name through historical lens of the late 1900s. Gump had a below average intelligence quotient, yet he is able to succeed in life with his hard working mindset. By various encounters with famous people, the movie outlines the realistic political and economic climate of the time. The character Forrest Gump stands a classical example of the “genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.”
2. Good Will Hunting (1997)
The main character of Good Will Hunting is the exact opposite of Forrest Gump. Will Hunting is what you may call, a genius. However he does not for his talents to good use, and ends up as a janitor in MIT. The film follows the psychological transformation of Will Hunting, and shows how he eventually conforms to use his talents for good.
3. Titanic (1997)
Needless to say, this is a must-watch movie of the 1990s. The epic tale of love weaves in between a very realistic problem faced by marriages meant to complete a political and economic status merge. As the 20th birthday of the movie approaches, we should take some time to appreciate this masterpiece that is still prevalent today.
4. Saving Private Ryan (1998)
The film follows the story of a military team venturing behind enemy lines in order to save private James Ryan, whose three brothers have all been killed in combat in WWII. The lens of this film is taken to focus more on this individual story by setting up a larger historical background, as the film is valued by its technical works such as the invasion of Omaha Beach in the beginning of the movie. This, as well as Pearl Harbor, are all known to be war-movie masterpieces.
5. Waterworld (1995)
Another famous film of the 1990s. I’d like to conclude with this film because of the idea it proposes. In the unknown future, where all land has disappeared and gone into the seas, who would live to dominate the world then? The film tells a story of how mankind was able to discover land again, and it nevertheless makes remarks on the issue of sea levels rising on a global scale.
All of these movies mentioned previously tells of intriguing ideas that we may never take time to notice. But there is always a reason for a film to withstand the passage of time, and that is why I’d suggest for you to perhaps, take some time to notice these films.
