Being away for the summer, I miss a lot of things about school. I miss my Fisher Fam and the amazing staff. I miss having the door held open for me and smiles from strangers.
But most of all, I miss Dining Hall Brunch.
Brunch is a sacred college ritual that we all have the glorious chance to experience every Saturday and Sunday where the omelet line is ready and pajamas are preferred.
1. A hot and ready endless meal.
Brunch
is a delicious abundance of all the meals you can dream of. Not only
are cooked-to-order eggs and omelets available, but also an assortment of
bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, sandwiches and more!
2. Pajamas are preferred.
One
of the most beautiful things about Brunch in Ward/Haffey is that it is
completely acceptable to show up in the clothes that you stumbled into
the night before. Sometimes we can even enjoy the brunch of shame outfit
that is the same as last night's.
3. You bump into everyone you saw out last night.
If
you need a recap of the night's events or just want to laugh about the
ridiculous and hilarious things that happened, then you need to go to
brunch. I don't care if you're not hungry at all — use that swipe and go
to brunch because you're friends are waiting for you.
4. You figure out how everyone else's night went.
Even if you didn't go out the Friday or Saturday
night before, you get the lowdown on last night's occurrences. Or you
can even get the lowdown on how the other house party went. Sometimes
you even get the lowdown on wholesome things like how the game went or
if your friend finally finished her group project. It's a catch-all,
really.
5. Lackmann staff.
If you went to brunch and Norma didn't yell at you for stealing a cookie, did you really go to brunch? Really
though, nothing cures your hangover better or wakes you up from your
groggy slept-in state better than the smiles and "good mornings" from
the friendly and caring Lackmann staff.
6. The jams.
When the music in Ward/Haffey is on point on a Sunday
morning there is just something in the air that tells you "I can do
this." Sometimes that means "I can get my homework done today." Or "I
can actually read that thing I was supposed to read for class last
Friday." Maybe it means "I can get through this week." And sometimes it
just means "I can house the rest of this waffle even though I'm already
full." Because you can. And the soundtrack helps.
7. You always stay way too long.
... especially on Sunday
when no one wants to get up because they know that means they have to
start doing homework. Somehow you always end up sitting at a table with
your best friends for two hours too long and you have no idea how the
time went by. But it was so worth it because you were spending quality
brunch time with your Fisher Fam, and you wouldn't trade if for the
world.
