The First Week of College As Told By Barney Stinson
How I Met Your Mother

Whether it's your first year of college or your last, everyone knows there's nothing quite like the first week. A week slammed packed of awkward eye contact, the silent battle of who gets the desk at the back of room, and hearing "you must spend at least 5 hours outside of class studying this material for every hour of class" from each and every professor (not to mention trying to figure out that math), is enough to get anyone's emotions going. So here's to you, my fellow student on your journey to higher education, because if returning to classes and endless homework makes you as sad as it makes me, a wise man once said.... "When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead." So, make this semester legendary.

1. When The Professor Pronounces Your Name Wrong on The First Day of Classes.

2. What you would rather do than participate in another ice-breaker.

3. Having to listen to your professor re-read the syllabus for 50 minutes.

4. Just to find out you already have an assignment due by the end of the week.

5. Realizing you bought a textbook you will literally only use once.

6. When God has personally blessed you with the one available parking spot on campus.

7. Having to raid the vending machines between classes when there's just no time for lunch.

8. When all of your friends say they're going to drop the class but it's a requirement for you.

9. Watching all the Freshmen walk to their 8 AM's from your dorm like:

10. Listening to all of your professors warn you about how difficult their class will be and not to procrastinate.

11. When you're finally dismissed from your last class on Friday, and you realize you somehow survived you first week back to college.

12. Just to remember you have to do it all over again on Monday.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
