The First Week Of Classes As Told By Parks and Recreation

We know the feelings of this five-day period all too well...

The First Week Of Classes As Told By Parks and Recreation

Doing things is difficult, particularly after you spending your entire summer free from a heavy workload. If your summer looked anything like mine, it involved a lot of Netflix and a small amount of responsibility.

There is no doubt that the first week of classes will be exciting, but it will certainly won't be easy to get back to the real world of 100-page readings and 15-page essays, not to mention those dreaded eight a.m. lectures!

Excitement

Before classes actually get underway you are thrilled; you are excited to see who is in your classes, meet new people, learn new things, get new supplies! It is all just so exciting.

Fatigue

If you have early morning classes, have to wake up before ten, or just have to wake up in general on the first day, it is not an easy feat. By the end of your first class you already need a nap.

Effort

Somehow after just one day of classes you find yourself swamped with work. You already have a test, an essay, multiple readings, and assignments. You just really need some emotional support and coffee to get through the rest of the week.

Commitment

You have meetings to go to, people to grab lunch with, assignments to complete, and the week is only half way over.

Socializing

Now, this can be a bit of a mixed bag. Meeting new people is great, right?

But by the end of the week you have listened to ten different people tell you about their cool summer internship, and you have said your name, state, and major about a thousand times.

Rest

You finally have a moment free from people or work. You bask in the opportunity to just sit down for five minutes or eat lunch alone for once.

Epiphany

Suddenly you realize what has been happening: this entire week has been an awakening of sorts. You realize that you may be away from your family, but you have real responsibilities. It starts to feel like you may be becoming an adult *gasp*.

Relief

You have (finally) made it through your first week of classes. There were struggles and there was pain, but you made it out alive. You have the weekend to relax and rejuvenate before it all starts up again.

Acceptance

The first week was not really as hectic as it felt. You are ready to take on the rest of the semester and can handle whatever life throws at you. You are invincible.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
