College is hard. College is terrible. College is taxing physically, mentally, and emotionally. College is a lot of partying. College gives you an education. Above all, college is about finding yourself and growing up.
I would be lying if I said that I went into college knowing that this was going to be a breeze. Because I did. The transition between high school and college is NOT easy. College is nothing like high school no matter where you decide to go. Whether it's a community college or the #1 top-ranked university in the Midwest for 14 years (shout out to Creighton) it's difficult and you have to study hard. You have to be mentally prepared to do well and to put forth all of the effort you have.
College isn't about being a biology pre-med major or a business student. Here at Creighton, it seems like no matter where you turn there is a biology pre-med student or a business student and take it from me who is a journalism major who is frowned upon, BIOLOGY AND BUSINESS DOESN'T WORK FOR EVERYONE. The statistics show half of the students at Creighton end up changing majors from biology pre-med to something else. And that's okay. It's hard to do well in science and math classes in college.
Here's the good news about college and your first semester. It's liberating and fun. I wasn't expecting to make as many friends as I did within the first month of college. I also wasn't expecting to receive an outpouring of support from my new friends whenever I am going through a situation with my friends from home or my family. You get the freedom to do what you want and to go to sleep when you want. I have taken more naps this first semester than I have my whole life.
College is great. College is fun. But you have to put in the work that comes with being a full-time college student, and you have to take your education seriously.
