SUNY Oswego is a great campus to start your college career no matter what age. Whether you are a freshman or even a transfer. These are eight things I think incoming students should know, on or off campus.
1. The sunsets are gorgeous.
The sunsets at SUNY Oswego can be extremely breathtaking. To looking out the window from my 7th floor lounge, to going to sit by the lake and seeing it there. Either way you can always find a good spot the catch it from.
2. Be prepared for snow and wind.

In the fall semester it was not that bad, but surprisingly enough we actually had classes cancelled before thanksgiving break. The snow will fall and the wind will blow a lot. Plan on bringing a ski mask up with you for spring. But this is perfect weather for sledding, skiing, snowboarding and more for those who enjoy that.
3. It is generally easy to get around.

From the blue route centro bus that brings students all around campus to the routes that will bring you into town to Walmart, or even downtown to the movie theatre. This is all free with your centro sticker you can get for your I.D. Even if you have your own car or decide to walk, the city is quite easy to grasp and is walking distance.
4. It is a nice size campus.
Everything is generally in the same area (quad) this includes the buildings of Tyler Hall, Mahar, Lanigan, Hewitt and Penfield Library. Toward central campus is the Marano campus center and the science building Shineman. East campus is Rich Hall, Sheldon, Wilbur and Park. This campus is great for walking and easy to get around.

5. The food isn't all that bad.
The food on campus is not too bad. Generally there are enough options for people who are vegetarian and vegan. They do repeat meals but some are so good you'll like having it again. There are multiple dining halls including two on west campus, Littlepage and Pathfinder. Central campus has Cooper while lakeside has lakeside itself. East campus has Mackin Complex which is a specialty.
6. Hockey is our sport.
At Oswego hockey is pretty popular and students will go all out. Previously ranked #1 in all Division III hockey, they are for sure competitive. With spring semester coming up be prepared for whiteout weekend as people wait in the campus center to get in.
7. The people that go here are welcoming and nice.
The student body at Oswego is very nice, students are easy going. With about just over 7,000 undergraduates students do come together whether it is for sports, events, clubs etc.
8. There are things to do around town.
Even though there are plenty of things happening campus such as sporting events, comedy shows, art shows etc. going into town offers a good amount of things too. There is Rice Creek, the movie theatre, Breitbeck park (perfect for sunsets), downtown which has little shops, restaurants and bars.
