To my very first job,
Little did I know I would be thanking you for smelling like fried grease and bathroom cleaner because it reminds me of home and something I now miss. Now that it has been a few months since I last worked, I can see the real impact this job and these people have had the few months I was a KFC team member, but the lasting one they have had as I continued on with life in college.
This was the first time that I had a real job and honestly, I had no idea if I would be any good, if I would get along with my boss/coworkers or if I would be able to juggle work, school and a social life. My patience and skills were put to the test on a daily basis, with frequent mistakes made in taking and delivering orders. Amidst the angry customers and gravy-covered floors, I was blessed with some of the most awesome, caring, and thoughtful people I could have been given. These coworkers came and went, but they all had an impact. I learned more about "Pretty Little Liars" and ate more cookies than I ever thought I would (I really could have had less than I did). I learned about their lives and their struggles while they taught me to fills orders and clean bathrooms. Even when the stress of the world was hanging over me, they still managed to keep a smile on my face. After only a few months, I saw these strangers become family. We started to go hang outside of work more and more by going to Applebee's on pay day for half-off appetizers and going to the movies after finishing a shift. It surprised me to see how close people can become over a period of time and to discover how many stories you can say that you shared with those people.
It amazed me how thoughtful these people could be. There were times where I could not come in to work and they were so flexible with my schedule, and I knew that the friends I had made and were making had my back and would take my shift. But it was not just my coworkers; it was also my boss. I was still able to play sports and participate in other school activities because you knew how important it was for not only me, but other students to be a high school student and stay involved with the community.
The time spent at my job was short, but the people and the impact they had on my life has carried on with me as I have ventured into college. Because of you, I was able to get a job on campus, and have some of the best friends that I still keep in touch with. Thank you KFC and everyone I ever met; you will always be a part of my heart.
