FireFan is a new sports app that you play while you watch your favorite sports team. Join a game on the FireFan app before the game begins, for example the Patriots-Broncos game. When you join, you make pre-game picks by answering questions on the app such as, "Will Tom Brady throw for at least three touchdowns?" or "how many receiving yards will New England running backs total?" with the answer options being 0-50, 51-100, 101-150, or 150+.
Then, throughout the game, the app will ask you more questions. For football games, it is every drive when new picks are available. At the start of every drive, you will be asked questions such as "will a tight end catch a pass for more than 10 yards?" or "what will the first play of the drive be?".
For each question you get correct, you get a certain amount of points and your points add up throughout the game. There is a leaderboard that you can view to see how you are stacking up against other players. There is also a chat section where you can talk to and also talk smack with (if you're into that) other players.
The points you earn can be used to get prizes. Smaller prizes include sports gear or tickets to games. Bigger prizes can be trips or even a car. The prizes section has not been added to the game yet, but it is coming soon. At the moment, the app is primarily football, but in a week or two, they will be adding the NHL and NBA and other sports further off in the future.
The way you join games is by tokens, which can be earned either by buying them or by using a feature where you watch a 30-second ad for free tokens — this is the method most people use. The more tokens you have, the more games you can play.
When you first make an account, you will be asked a referral code. You do not have to put one in, but if you do, you will get free tokens to start out with. My referral code is BDiehards. There are also leagues of players you can join. For example, my league is called Bostons Diehards. There are also MVP leagues which are run by famous people and celebrities (Kevin Garnett is one of them for all you Boston fans).
The game is quite fun. I have played for the past few weeks during the Patriots games and it has been extremely entertaining and engaging. By the time the full app is out, it should be even more fun!
