Finding Happiness In Your New Year's Resolutions

Well it seems that New Years is upon us again, with this past year flying by even quicker than the one before. If you're like me, 2015 was a year full of changes. It was a year of redefining happiness, of who I really was and who I wanted to be, and that will continue for me as 2016 rolls around. As the calendars change from 2015 to 2016, all of the New Years resolutions are out on Facebook. People are posting about how they want a "thinner body" so they're going to workout more and eat less. The resolutions are out for eating healthy, or working harder to make more money.

Truthfully though, while all of those things would be nice, being genuinely happy should be the ultimate resolution for the New Year. Because if you're not happy while completing your resolutions that you desire, they're not going to stick. So whether you're getting up at 5am to go to the gym, getting up at 5 a.m. to get to work a little earlier and make more money, or simply just trying to start the new year with a clean slate- find your happiness while doing it. Maybe you have a big year coming up, one that could mean even more changes than last year, or maybe you don't. Either way, find your happiness and kick butt at whatever it is you're trying to accomplish. Here are 10 quotes to help you find that happiness and the motivation for that happiness for the new year.

1. Do You.

Too often we get so carried away with trying to make our lives better that we forget to worry about ourselves. So [you do you boo boo] take care of yourself and work on doing what makes you happy, and the rest will fall into place.

2. Move Forward.

If you're content with where you are in life then you're never going to get anywhere new. So with that being said, venture out to new places. You'll be surprised how exhilarating and refreshing it can be.

3. Stay Positive.

Whether we realize it or not, we act and think like those around us over time. By surrounding yourself with positive people, you allow yourself to think positive thoughts which in turn allows you to lead a positive lifestyle.

4. It's Only Temporary

Nothing lasts forever. So no matter what the circumstance is, remember that whatever it is that you are going through is temporary. Keep pushing on and moving forward to get to the person you will want to be. And when you get to the other side of it? You'll be stronger.

5. This Too Shall Pass

Like mentioned above, nothing lasts forever. So whatever kind of bad day that you have, remember that tomorrow is always a new day and a new beginning, giving you the chance to make it a better day.

6. Go With The Flow

Don't worry about planning out every little detail. Learn to go with the flow with whatever life throws at you. You'll find that you won't be as uptight about things and enjoy yourself more.

7. Be Happy For You

This is SO important. Stop worrying about what other people think of you and trying to impress them. Focus on making yourself happy.

8. Stop Worrying.

You can't control everything. And worrying about what you can't control won't help anything. So stop. I know this is so much easier said than done, but how much is worrying actually going to help? Control what you can control and leave it at that so that you can enjoy the good.

9. The Ultimate Goal.

This should be your ultimate goal of any of your New Year's Resolution. Enough said.

10. A New Chapter.

Remember that this is a new year. No, that doesn't mean a 'new year new you' but it also means that this year is a clean slate and a new beginning. So make the best of it!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
