In 2003, we got the animated hit, "Finding Nemo." It was made by Pixar and followed a father fish losing his son and his journey to find him with the help of another fish who suffers from short-term memory loss. When "Finding Nemo" came out, people went nuts. They loved this movie, they said it was incredible and yeah, I pretty much agree with them.
"Finding Nemo" is one of my all time favorite Pixar movies and that isn't an unpopular opinion. It's hard to find someone who doesn't love it. So when Pixar announced the release of the sequel "Finding Dory," people (including myself) could not wait for it.
The film came out a few days ago, I saw it and it definitely lived up to the hype. The story here is that Dory wants to find her parents. That's it. But the way the story was executed made it seem so much stronger due to its energy and unbelievably fast pace. This film is always moving, it always has something to do and all for just keeping the audience entertained.
As I said before, Dory suffers from short-term memory loss, and you would think that making a movie around her, the gag would get annoying, but here, they make Dory charming enough, and even smart enough, to a point where she's not even a bother. She is proof that living with some sort of disability does not make you any less smarter than anyone else; that is a message that kids nowadays need to listen to because it teaches kids acceptance or even satisfactory if one were to live with a disability.
Every character here is completely fleshed out to a point where everyone there has a purpose to be there and they're great characters! For example, Hank the Octopus, he has a cranky personality, but actually has a heart of gold. He helps Dory, he's not just some useless side character; he actually does something.
That's the character and moral side of things. How is the animation? Beautiful. Every single color is fleshed out and it's just like eye candy. Everything here look so bright and colorful that sometimes I was paying more attention to that than the actual story.
In terms of flaws with the film? I thought the film had some scenes where it would have ended, and then when it did end, it felt kind of abrupt. But that's really it.
Overall, "Finding Dory" is such a fun, beautiful looking animated film that teaches kids about the struggles of living with a disability. Please go see it. It's definitely worth it.
