Finding an Answer to the Question “Why?”
A little over a week ago, my friends and I found ourselves in a terrible moment of our lives -- the death of a dear friend. A young man, who was friends with everyone in our small home town, was tragically killed in an ATV accident, leaving his family, a girlfriend and an unborn child. As the news spread, a gray cloud soon hovered over our town. We asked each other and we prayed to God the same question -- why? Why him and why so soon? Lord, he was only 19 years old, why did you decide to take him? No one knew what to say or could come up with an answer that would comfort the grieving family and friends. But, as I thought about it, there is some one who does know the answer to all questions.
I prayed to God several times a day, trying to find comfort, trying to find an answer to “Why?” I put all my faith, all my confusion, into my God. “Lord, why take him away from his little baby girl? Why take him from his little sister and his parents? Why take a ray of sunshine out of this dark world? Lord, I don’t understand.” I turned to my bible in hope that God would lead me to the right scripture. I opened to Ecclesiastes 3.. “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die,…., a time to weep and a time to laugh,…”
We often find ourselves asking “why?”: why did they die, why did my significant other leave me, why did I not get this or why did I not get that, why is there so much hate, etc. It’s the one question everyone asks in their time of need, confused or mad. But, God has given us the answer to all our problems. God sent his son to this earth to die for every sinner, so that we can have eternal life. He has blessed us with his word, the Bible, so that in any time of our life we can find refuge in him. If we turn to him, we can and will find the answer to all questions known to man. In every situation, turn to God. In triumphs, turn to him. In victories, turn to him. When you find yourself in the lowest spot you’ve ever been in, turn to him.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Prov. 3:5-6
