Finals Week Thoughts As Told By A College Freshman

You don't truly understand what this week is like until you experience it first hand.

Finals Week Thoughts As Told By A College Freshman

Remember when you were a kid and you would fall on the trampoline, and everyone would keep jumping so you couldn't get up? Well, that's probably the best description I can think of for finals week in college.

As a college freshman, I never knew what college-related finals were like until I experienced them first hand. And, let me tell you, there is nothing like it. I thought that I'd be prepared for the treacherous last week of my first semester. I also thought that coffee was just a leisure drink that was needed as a pick-me-up every once and awhile. Unfortunately, I happened to be wrong about both of those assertions. Overall, I think that every college freshman can agree that finals week is an experience unlike any other.

That being said, finishing finals was equivalent to the way that Mr. Fredricksen felt when he reached Paradise Falls in Up.

So, special shoutout to all the college students at home who are finally relaxing for the holiday season.

Here are 15 thoughts that crossed my mind while I attempted to survive finals week:

1. Remember that sleep no longer exists.

2. But if given the chance, take that nap!

3. Coffee is water and your body needs it.

4. Remember that everyone is just as stressed as you are.

5. Petting puppies is crucial for your well-being and mental stability.

6. Don't put off studying, do it now.

7. Take breaks.

8. Feeling alone? Go on Twitter or Facebook. You're bound to find a variety of relatable "Finals Week" posts to make yourself feel better.

9. When in doubt, dance it out.

10. Don't stress too much over one grade.

11. Visit the library. You will feel welcomed by the masses of your stressed out peers.

12. Study in the name of Christmas!

13. Thinking, "living in my parents basement for the rest of my life can't be that bad?"

14. Answering your parents "How are finals going?" text with "Good!" when in reality you have decided that your obituary will read 'Death by Flashcards.'

15. Finishing finals week in college is by far unlike anything you have ever experienced.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
