For those of you who know me, I am what you would call a “Big Brother Superfan.” I have been watching the show now for 5 or 6 years, and I love the show. However, I now feel that a subsequent amount of time has passed, and I can now talk about this past season.
First thing first, let me start with this; What the heck Paul?! In Paul’s first season on the show, I loved him. I wanted nothing more than for him to win the 500k over Nicole. Needless to say, I was not happy when he came in second to her. Fast forward to this season, when Julie announced that Paul would be coming back as one of the twists, I was ecstatic.
After hearing he would be coming back, I was so happy I screamed (quite loudly might I add), Paul was my favorite. “Was” being the keyword here. Slowly I started to realize that he was no longer about “friendship” but instead was becoming a manipulative person who cared about nothing else except for winning.
Some may even go as far as to say he played one of the best games of all time. I politely disagree, Derek, the winner of season 16, would take that role in my opinion.
Not to be rude or anything, but the cast this season was probably one of the worst cast’s they’ve had. Mainly for the sole fact that not one person figured out what Paul was doing, and if they did, they were too scared to do anything about it. I can’t tell you how many times throughout the season, I wished that someone would catch Paul in the act and get him out.
But every time someone came even remotely close to figuring it out, they were most likely on their way out of the house by that point. For example, to name a few people who knew what Paul was doing but got evicted before they could do anything about it, Cody, Jess, and Mark.
In my opinion, the house this season was full of bullies and Paul was their Puppeteer. A prime example of this would be the week that Jess got evicted from the house. Josh started bickering with Jess over something irrelevant, to which made Jess leave the kitchen to get away from it.
But Josh, being the child he is, continued to follow her outside banging pots and pans doing his childish dance, and essentially harassing both Jess and Cody. All of this, at the command of Paul.
When the finale rolled around, I was not at all surprised to see just how bitter the jury members were. In fact, I actually found it quite comical. Throughout most of the episode, the jury members constantly bashed Paul, saying how he screwed them over.
Until that is, someone pointed out that it must’ve worked to an extent because he was still in the game and they were sitting in the Jury House.
Paul may have thought he was playing a great game, but I don’t think he realized just how many bridges he burned throughout the season. He burned virtually all of his bridges and ended coming in second to Josh by one vote, once again. To that, I laughed uncontrollably, because it served him right. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.
