~ 56 billion animals are killed every year to be eaten. Let me repeat, 56 BILLION.
~This translates to roughly 2,000 animals killed every second. This figure does NOT include hunted animals, or aquatic animals.
~ Everyday, cows, chickens, pigs, and other farmed animals are forced to stand in close quarters, in their own feces, festering bacteria growth.
~ 50% of factory farmed dairy cows come down with debilitating infections, on average they live to be 5 years old when a cows normal life span is 20 years.
Spoiler alert: I'm not a vegetarian.
~ We pride ourselves nowadays on NOT eating genetically modified and genetically engineered food, but most of the meat sold in our markets comes from animals who DO eat genetically modified and engineered corn and wheat. So guess what! You're eating it too.
~ The pollution that factory farms produce is astronomical. The earth can't handle it, there are at least 20,000 factory farms in the United States alone, not to mention the rest of the world.
~ Chickens so often trample each other to death because of how close their quarters are.
If you don't care about this topic because of animals rights and the elimination of animal cruelty than care about it for the sake of the Earth. We live in an increasingly radical society where millennials preach about the devastating effects of climate change and global warming. Factory farms are one of the worlds leading contributors to climate change! So if by day you're preaching to take our climate under control but eating meat night after night, seriously, think about what you're doing.
So many people don't realize the effects that the factory farming industry has on our world, our lives.
I would never push vegetarianism on others since I'm not a vegetarian myself. All I'm saying is that if we want to take care of the beautiful, immense, and incredible planet we live on, we have to eat less meat. I eat meat maybe 5 times a week, MAYBE. Out of the 28 meals I eat every week (4x a day), 3-5 of those typically contain meat.
Ignorance is bliss people, sorry to break it to you.
Common misbelief of many meat eaters is that "you won't get enough protein if you don't eat meat", wrong.
When talking calorie to protein ratio, broccoli has MORE protein than steak does.
Here are some other tasty, plant based proteins to widen your horizons.
Treat the earth right, eat less meat, eat more veggies, think about what you're consuming.
