Growing up, my mom and older sister always dyed their hair. My mom was covering up her gray hairs and my sister was doing the cool thing to do (or something like that). The first time I dyed my hair I was in fifth grade. I had ashy blonde hair and just really wanted something different, ya know? So mom let me get the super awesome temporary hair dye, just a slightly different color than my natural one. But man, did that change my life. Dying my hair opened me up to a new world of excitement, of constantly changing color and personality.
Now I can say, that at 20 years old, I have had almost every normal hair color. I've been so many shades of blonde, literally white, gray for a little while, even a slight purple. I've had red hair, brown, dark brown, maroon, you name it. What I can tell you about each color, though, is that it changes you. With each color, comes a new side of my personality. Some people may argue this isn't true, but speaking from experience, it is.
In high school and various periods of time throughout college, I had blonde hair. The blondes were my more natural colors. When I was blonde I definitely had more fun. The stereotype isn't always true, but personally I felt way more lighthearted and youthful. I laughed and joked more and I think I was more cheerful as well.
I've experimented with a few shades of brown. One of them was even slightly green, no thanks! Brown haired me was pretty serious. She was studious, too. Brown hair made me feel smarter, for sure, probably because of that blonde stereotype I mentioned before.
My most edgy color was definitely maroon that eventually faded into what I have now, a fiery reddish brown. Maroon was really cool. It was the most wild and it made me wear lots of dark colors. I think it also made me more angry and even more serious than the shades of brown. With maroon hair I loved dark lipstick and even started to listen to rap music, ha. I'm telling you, it changed me.
One of my favorite colors so far has been white hair. While I had white hair, I felt pretty and girly and fun. White hair goes with everything and makes you look tan. I definitely recommend trying it out!
The options for hair color never end and there's always a new one trending. Right now there's a lot of rose gold, some navy with black, some wild colors, and really beautiful ombre colors. I would love to give some of these a try and see who they make me become, but with spring around the corner, it's probably time to go back to blonde.
If you haven't dyed your hair and aren't totally against it, I would for sure try it out. You never know the sides of your personality that can shine through with a new 'do! Changes of seasons are a great time to experiment with color, so what are you waiting for?
