My mutations were supposed to make me special but they only hurt me.

If there was one good thing about my size, it was that I could go where others couldn't. Maybe that's why I caught his eye. I would never come to understand my importance until after I chose to rebel. I was a young girl when I was recruited to be the shark's assistant. Shark was someone like me, someone who was different in the way I was. He took me under his wing and treated me like family when I had none. When I grew older, he told me the only way to control people was through fear, so that's was I did. I am ashamed of the things I did, but I was a scared teenager back then - what did you expect? The only man I ever knew to be family was telling me I was not strong, that I would not be his family unless I used my powers to make people fear me.

One day changed my life though. I decided I had enough of his actions. By no means am I saying shark and I are equally matched. I was a gangly, thin, and a disheveled teen girl. Shark was a powerful man who easily towered over me. The fight rules were as followed: we could use our powers - just no bodily harm. The first one to change back to human lost the fight.

The circumstances created harsh results. If I were to lose, I would be banished from my home - as a repentance for my crime against our leader. If by some miracle Shark lost, I would become our leader. As you could only imagine, the odds were not in my favor. I was the only one who lasted the longest with Shark. This is because I managed to freeze the water around his form before he turned into a shark. This bought me a few minutes to escape. Though I never truly lost, I was still banished for even challenging him. The only reason nothing worse than banishment happened to me is because I turned into a fennec fox. Then, no one was able to catch me. When I had made my way to my new home, New York, I changed my name to the title which saved me. Instead of being known as Marie Cloud Alvarez, I am now known as Fox Cloud Alvarez and no one would ever catch me.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
