The flu is the worst. Flu shots or not, there is always a chance of getting sick around the holidays and it's pretty horrible. While being sick is no fun, there are some tips and tricks for getting better ASAP. So if you're cooped up in bed with Netflix, tea, and a box of tissues by your side (like I am right now) give these ideas a chance and get to feeling better so you can spend more time enjoying the holidays.

1. Hot showers.

If you're feeling crummy, there isn't much a hot shower won't fix. The hot water will soothe your aches and pains and the steam will help clear your sinuses. Take a long shower and let the water wash your sickness away.

2. Layers.

Giphy

When you're sick you can go from sweating to freezing pretty quickly, so make sure to wear layers like a sweater or a zip-up sweatshirt so you can stay at a comfortable temperature all day long.

3. Real soup.

Giphy

Soup does wonders for you when you're sick and homemade soup is even better! Make your own soup at home and freeze half so you can have it ready for next time you get sick!

4. Laughter.

Giphy

As they say, laughter really can be the best medicine. Call up an old friend or watch some funny movies to get you laughing. Smiling can really boost your mood and make you feel better, at least for a little while.

5. Hot tea.

Tea is perfect for a sore throat! Being sick gives you the perfect opportunity to try out different types of tea to find your favorite. I'm a personal fan of chai tea or blueberry tea, but whichever you choose, it will likely give your throat some much-needed relief.

6. Lots of tissues.

Giphy

You can (probably) never overbuy on tissues. When you're sick you probably go through boxes of tissues and it's important not to run out. So stock up!

7. All the fluids.

Giphy

Fluids are so incredibly important when you're sick! Drink lots and lots of water, juice, and Gatorade to keep yourself from getting dehydrated and continue to flush all the "sick" out of your body as quickly as possible.

8. Vitamin C.

Giphy

Vitamin C is another essential when you are sick. You can get more of this through drinking lots of orange juice, or by taking supplements like Emergen-C.

9. Stay busy.

Giphy

When you're sick you've got to stay busy. You can do this through reading a book, watching a movie, talking to a friend over the phone, trying a new craft project, doing a puzzle, or any other past time you can think of. This is a good opportunity to watch that movie you haven't seen yet or get caught up on your favorite Netflix show.

10. Sleep.

Giphy

Sleep might be the most important step to getting well. Get to bed early, take a nap, and don't be afraid to sleep in a bit. Sleep gives your body the chance to refresh itself for the next day which is even more vital when you're battling a sickness.

No matter what you do to try and heal, make sure to have a positive attitude and you'll be back baking cookies and singing carols in no time!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
