Incredibly enough, we are one-sixth of the way through 2017. How many of you are still working on those New Years Resolutions? (Don't feel bad, I'm slacking already, too.) I've been trying a lot of new things since the New Year started and in the month of February, I found a few things that I really love and wanted to share with everyone.
1. Favorite Makeup Item: 'Lights, Camera, Lashes' mascara by Tarte
I know, this is not a new product, but it was the first expensive mascara I let myself splurge on and I am so glad I did. When I do my makeup, I still to mascara, blush, and lipstick. It's a pretty basic routine. The Tarte mascara doesn't clump, and a couple of coats still look like full, natural lashes. Tarte claims it's "clinically proven to to increase lash volume by 330 percent," which I thought was outrageous, but I don't think they were wrong. It's also a vegan-friendly company and this particular product has been dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested. Definitely, my new holy grail product and I will be reaching for this every time I do my makeup in the future.
2. Favorite Movie: "The Space Between Us"
Classified as an adventure, drama, romance and sci-fi flick by IMDb, the film tells the story of a boy born on Mars who longs to visit Earth. Asa Butterfield, (Hugo, Ender's Game, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children) plays Gardner Elliot, a seventeen-year-old boy who has never set foot on Earth. His mother died in childbirth while living in the first colony on Mars, and Gardner has no idea who his father is. Armed with a limited knowledge of society, Gardner escapes to Earth to meet Tulsa, his only friend whom he met online. Racing the clock to experience Earth for all it is, Gardner feels love, happiness, and acceptance, while his heart fights to survive the Earth's fatal gravitational pull. It's not sporting the best score on Rotten Tomatoes, but if you like sappy, sentimental, coming of age films, this one might be for you.3. Favorite Book: "Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon"
Maddy is a sixteen-year-old girl who has never been outside. She's sick, basically allergic to everything and is susceptible to getting sick just by breathing unfiltered air. So she stays in her house with air lock doors, Hepa filters, and her nurse Carla. For years she's been able to handle never leaving the house. That is until Olly moves in next door. Mysterious, new, and exciting, they form a friendship. It was such a fun read, and fairly quick as well. It's just over three hundred pages, which I finished in about four hours. I was drawn to this book after seeing the trailer for it floating around on Twitter and Facebook. You can pick up the book at Barnes and Noble's and the movie is set to release May 19th, 2017, starring Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games) as Maddy and Nick Robinson (The 5th Wave, Jurrasic World) as Olly. If you liked The Fault in Our Stars, this book is for you.
4. Favorite App: MLB at Bat
My absolute favorite thing about February is when it ends and March begins because that means BASEBALL IS BACK. This time of year I always reinstall MLB at Bat. Most baseball junkies with a smartphone have heard of this app and it's easy to see why. It gives you a list of all the teams in the MLB and allows you to choose your favorites and receive updates on games and news when they are on and off the diamond. It's handy when you're at work or just can't be near a TV or radio to tune into the games and gives you a play by play of each game you want updates on. It's available on both the Google Play and Apple Itunes Store with free and premium options. If you're into baseball and don't have the app yet, I seriously would recommend it!
5. Favorite Game: Stardew Valley
The one-year anniversary of the release of this game was on February 26, 2017, which was shortly after I downloaded it. Described by its creator as an "open-ended country-life RPG," this game allows you to build your own farm in the charming village of Stardew Valley. It's similar to SIMS but has a constructed storyline, in which you inherit your late grandfather's farm and move there for a change of pace in your life. It's very enjoyable to play and the 8-bit artwork is simple and sweet. There are many challenges and options you can choose from, which I found the most fun. It was a nice way to get into gaming and I would love to recommend it to everyone.
There was lots of fun stuff from February, but I'm very excited to see what March holds. Hopefully, you can enjoy some of these items as much as I have! Merry March!
