Psalms is one of my favorite books of the Old Testament. I love how this singular book within the Bible is composed by several people. Though each Psalm may be different, each serves as a reminder of the wonderful God we Christians serve. Though it seems impossible to pick favorites, here are five that I very much enjoy and often read.
Psalms 3
Psalms 3 was written by David. This Psalm speaks of how GOD acts as our shield and continues to protect us at all times. My favorite part reads:
"I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about."
-Psalms 3:5-6, King James Version
Psalms 63
Psalms 63 was written by David as he was in the wildness of Judah. This Psalm speaks of God's love and how it is worthy of our praise.
"Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice."
-Psalms 63: 4-7, King James Version
Psalms 18
Psalms 18 reminds people that God is our "rock...fortress...and deliver". Because he all these great things, we are able to call on him in times of need.
"In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears."
-Psalms 18:6, King James Version
Psalms 23
Psalms 23 was one I committed to memory quite early on in finding my faith as it was the favorite of one of my family members. What I love about in Psalms 23 is how it shows God's constant presence as well as provides hope for the life we shall have when we continue to be led by him.
"Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."
-Psalms 23:5-6, King James Version
Psalms 100
Psalms 100 is a Psalm of praise.
"Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations."
