SoundCloud rapper "Fat Nick" is one of the most well-known artists in the trap-rap/SoundCloud rap scene, and his newest album Generation Numb reflects ideas of drinking lean (codeine cough syrup), making money, and flashing what jewelry you have. This isn't to say that most other artists in this scene don't rap about these same ideas, however they are definitely present throughout this album. Similar to his past projects Nick teamed up with "Mikey the Magician" to produce this album, and the familiar "MTM hit em' with the heat!" is present in each track. This album also features other SoundCloud artists such as "OhGessy", "Bexey", and "Blackbear"
The album kicks off with an instant hit "Swipe Swipe" and features a catchy hook "Fendi on me, swipe swipe, now the piece hot." This track was a personal favorite of mine because whenever the beat dropped it would follow Nick's flow pattern. I also really liked the lyric "Put some diamonds in my mouth, watch this money talk" because of the literal way it is being presented. The next track "Which Way" used the same beat as the previous song just in a faster pace and I thought it was a little redundant. The track is catchy with the lyrics "which way, what way, your bitch comin' my way" but other than that it didn't bring much to the table.
I instantly liked track three "BFF" because it used a different beat than the last two songs before it. This track can be summed up by saying that drugs are Nick's best friend because they take the pain and stress out of life. The lyrics "drugs they be my best friend, girl you got me stressin" aren't complicated to understand, and represent the dependency that Nick has formed with them. The fourth track on this album "Wylin" reminded me of "Candy Paint" by Post Malone because they both use the same Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory style beat. I couldn't take this track seriously, but it was catchy and the lyric "I can't drink soda no more and let my teeth rot" made me laugh.
"Flooded Pints" features "OhGessy" and this track is clearly about drinking lean. From the name of the track, to the lyrics "drink a pint, flooded ice" represent this as well. Although it is one of the more popular songs on this album, this song didn't do it for me. This track constantly rhymes "ice" with "nice" and "shit" with "shit". Additionally, "OhGessy" had a lyric in this track "My gun don't jam, she fucked me and my man" which I couldn't stop laughing at. This track eventually fads out with the beat.
The next track "Bags on Me" uses a similar beat to "Swipe Swipe" and "Which Way", so it didn't stand out to me as a listener. In this track, Nick uses the lyric "These bullets got no name" to imply that those who don't like him are firing anonymous bullets. The following tracks "Mum's Block", and "All the Smoke" sound similar to other tracks on this album and there isn't anything about them that stands out.
Track nine "Slow It Down" features Bexey and a super catchy hook. "They all say 'Hi!' cause I got all this ice on" represents how Nick feels about his fame and how fake everyone has acted towards him about it. I feel like Bexey made this song great because of his quick flow pattern and rhyme scheme.
"Ice Out" features the artist Blackbear and this is another one of the more popular tracks off this album. Similar to other tracks on this album, Nick is once again flaunting how much money he has and the jewelry around his neck. Blackbear also refers to A$AP Rocky in this track with the lyrics "So much Raf, A$AP Rocky would be mad." A music video was also recorded for this track where Nick has a quinceanera. The music video is goofy as hell, and throughout the video Nick is constantly doing his "pretty boy" pose. The video doesn't do much to describe the song, although watching Nick fall down from all the cake icing was hilarious.
This album finished up with "WTF" and this track doesn't bring much to the table. In this track the verse "what the fuck" is repeated on a loop and becomes redundant quickly. There wasn't much thought behind this track and I'm not sure why a music video was made for it. By this song being trash, leaves the listener feeling like the album was incomplete.
I really enjoyed the album art of Generation Numb because it confused me and made me analyze what was happening in the picture. This album was great for the style of music Fat Nick was trying to create, however I don't think I'll ever listen to this music again. There were some really catchy lyrics and cool beats on this album, however I feel like because a lot of the beats got reused, the overall quality diminished. This album received a 5 out of 10 and I would not buy this album on vinyl.
