GIRLS! Fashion has always been something that we all can somehow love and hate all at the same time. If you are human, chances are you have committed a major fashion faux pas that you wish you could bury away in a scrapbook for no one else to ever see. This is a tribute to the major fashion trends that we have known, loved and sported throughout our embarrassing yet absolutely amazing college years.
Let’s start by heading back to 2012 shall we?For seniors this was your freshmen year and we all know how awkward that time in your life was.
I swear anything sheer was a must buy for all girls. You rocked those sheer button ups with body con skirts of various stripes and colors paired with a gladiator style sandal. Hot.
No matter what bottoms you may have been wearing, tall leather fall boots supposedly went with it. So fashion forward.
Um can we talk about how weak EVERYONE’S brow game was? Like seriously, how did we not know what we know now?
On the off chance you didn’t straighten your hair, you better believe you had tight wavy curls like America’s favorite little sweetheart, Shirley Temple.
While skinny jeans were making big waves, we still had faith in boot cut jeans that borderline could be considered bell bottoms. Bonus points if you wore flats with your flares. Work it sister.
The print game was too damn strong. Whether it was rainbow peacock feathers, bright cheetah or artsy Aztec designs you had it in a skirt, shirt and possibly even pants.
Thin cloth infinity scarves were clearly meant just for fashion since they served no benefit in the freezing winter months. If you have one in every color you were doing it the right way.
High-low skirts and dresses took our world b storm. Party in the front, business in the back? That is how it goes right?
Lastly, just jeans in general. As a freshman you still had your high school bod at least for a little while so you rocked jeans every day. You know, like most people do.
Moving into 2013 we began to ditch the trendy sheer button ups and adjusted to the exciting new fashion available.
The most important change was also an absolute God send. LEGGINGS! Leggings blessed us in a big big way. The freshmen (insert weight gain) here became very real and why wear constricting jeans when you can kick back in a comfy pair of Lulus? Chances are you paired them with a nice crew neck to create a better version of a sweat suit.
High-waisted shorts came all the way back from the 60s and we were all about hopping on that fun train. This not only made us look laid back, but also kind of flirty and we are still all about it.
Cropped flowy tops also came back with the high-waisted trend and they were worn with close to anything. Shorts, short skirts, long skirts, leggings, jeans. If you got, it flaunt it.
Kimonos also previously known as cardigans became the staple accessory to any going out outfit.
Welcome in the new night out go-to: skater skirts, crop tops and completed with a pair of white Chuck Taylor’s.
Long, thicker fashion sweaters were both comfortable and weather appropriate. Don’t forget the leggings and tall boots.
JIRTS! Button up jean shirts were an obsession of many and brought a certain sense of togetherness to an otherwise lazy outfit.
Flannels, similar to the jirt craze allowed us to be comfy casual. #blessed.
Rompers started easing their way into our closets and our hearts. Not only did they make you look as though you had your life together, but they make business casual a breeze.
Ushering into the year 2014. As we slowly matured so did our attire. Just kidding, we are old and lazy and no longer care about getting ready for classes.
Flower crown headbands. Now if this isn’t nostalgic I don’t know what is. Who knew Woodstock would have led to a fashion statement 50 years later?
Free People’s flowy dresses created the masterpiece that is college boho chic. We will forever be grateful for these adorably comfortable sundresses.
Ripped up baggy boyfriend jeans became the advancement from leggings to offer a more refined comfy casual look.
Trapeze, flowy, bucket or whatever flouncy word to describe these dresses created a business casual alternative to our everyday attire. Talk about sophistication.
Birkenstocks crawled out of the hole they’ve been lying dead in and, speak for yourself, but I am so happy they did. We FINALLY have another option than basic Converse every day.
Floppy hats made their debut in the fall and instantly turned a normally dressed girl into the super trendy hipster she wants to be.
The off the shoulder ruffled flowy tops that once made people say you look like a pirate actually turned into a fashionable top to wear for a night out on the town.
As the years come and go so do the memories of fashion we regret, obsess over and vow to never ever get sick of. I know I once that zebra would live on forever, but as with all things style you never know. The possibilities are endless.
