There are so many trends we wish to bring back, but only a few become popular during the season. I have so much fun looking out for what the next fashion revival is because I like watching different people reinterpret these styles in different ways. It is interesting to see how many ideas people come up with when an old trend is reborn. There are so many creative people who come up with these intelligent looks. This summer I have seen so many bohemian interpretations in ready to wear garments. When I walked into stores like Forever 21 and Papaya I saw a lot of pieces that reminded me of the bohemian era. The mannequins were filled with bell bottoms, tribal prints, lacy shirts, and more!
Here are a few pieces!
Forever 21
These jeans are totally 70s. The flare just gives it away. This reinterpretation is actually pretty simple, compared to other trends I have seen. In the 70s, bell bottoms and exaggerated flared jeans were “hip”. Now people can reinterpret the trend by getting not so exaggerated flared jeans. Sometimes modernized flared jeans are also boot cut length. Will you be rocking this trend next?
Forever 21
Can you guess what 70s trend this model is reinterpreting? She is reinterpreting the lace trims. These were big in the 1970s! This is a very minimal effect on this particular garment, but even if there was just one spec of lace, it still has that 70s vibe. The sleeves also have a bohemian influence. They may not be wide bell sleeves, but they sure flare out enough for their reinterpretation to be shown. Simplicity was key this summer!
Papaya
This shirt has a really small detail from the 70s. A lot of tribal like or printed fabrics were a huge deal during the bohemian era. I have seen lots of tribal pants, handbags, backpacks, and even socks with tribal print. There was a lot of jewelry that had tribal inspired designs as well. I believe it was this summer’s biggest trend!
Papaya
Crotched detailing was also a big trend this summer! I absolutely adored this trend. It is very beautiful and adds femininity to any outfit. Crotched tops go with anything. You can wear them with skirts, shorts, jeans, etc. This was very trendy during the 70s. You can see a lot of people wearing these tops at Coachella or any other music festivals!
I was definitely into the flared sleeve trend. I even incorporated it in one of my design projects in my spring semester. Like most people this summer, I was definitely inspired by the bohemian era. It was a time where people just wanted peace in the world. It was also a time of self-expression through protests, music, pop culture, and even fashion! So many people used fashion as a tool to express their opinions at the time and I think that is a really cool way to show people what they were about. What trends were you into this summer?
