This week I began my summer journey to intern in the nations capital: D.C. But what struck me first were the very stark differences between Los Angeles and D.C. I have lived on the West coast my entire life and I have never even been to the East coast. And as much as I am logically conscious of the fact that I both cities are in the Unites States, I still feel like some things are totally different. I think the most obvious difference was the fashion. In L.A, saying there’s a very casual dress code is kind of an understatement. Going out in jeans, a t-shirt, and converse is pretty usual and the more dressed up people tend to adhere to trendy street fashion. Don’t get me wrong; I love the L.A. street style. It’s all very innovative and trendy. But coming to D.C. I really just noticed how damn put together everyone was. This place is filled with people who are just clean cut and on their stuff at all times. The women walk around in either beautiful sandals or wedges. Their dresses are adorable and fit them flawlessly. Their hair is pretty much always put together and their makeup matches. The men’s style is likewise very put together. And this is not even getting to what everyone looks like during the weekdays. The business style is clean-cut and all around consistently on point.
But back to women’s weekend fashion…
The first few days I felt pretty underdressed. And I think its because the women in D.C. make bold fashion statements with their style. There are bright colors, beautiful flowing skirts of every kind, patterned sundresses, and detailed blouses. Pair that with the stilettos, wedges, and heels that consistently make my head turn, and you have a bit of a picture of how I feel walking down the street.
Basically, I am in fashion wonderland filled with deliciously classy pieces of wearable art and I am very happy.
