The Case For V.A.T.S. In 'Fallout 76'

This week I decided to take a break from my "hero's journey" in cinema discussion to talk about a much more pressing issue at hand: V.A.T.S. in the most recent "Fallout" game.

Although this isn't my first article on "Fallout 76" (and it most likely won't be my last) I wanted to take the time to argue my thoughts on the changes made to the V.A.T.S. or Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System for the multiplayer title. Although there is the main issue of it only working half the time due to one of the many bugs in the game, seriously, I had 98% on a super mutant that was 5 feet in front of me and nothing hit, my main grip isn't with a bug, it's with the system itself.

For those of you unfamiliar to the Bethesda series, the V.A.T.S. system is a unique feature of the "Fallout" games that has been a staple of the franchise since the original "Fallout," then with the game studio Interplay. The system is fairly simple to use, hit a button on your controller/keyboard and the world will freeze for a few moments allowing players to target nearby enemies and even includes a percent chance to hit on the target. With perks you can even aim at specific body parts which can sometimes allow you to shoot off the arm holding the weapon in their hand.

For me, especially grinding those first few hours of gameplay into a "Fallout" game, V.A.T.S. is not only effective to help me finish quests and kill feral ghouls, but it is a great XP booster too which allows me to get newer weapons, more perks, and a better gaming experience overall.

So here is where my gripe comes in, "Fallout 76's" V.A.T.S. (when it works) doesn't stop time, but just slows down it, taking away those great cinematics that accompany using the feature. And look, I understand Bethesda's reason for the change, because "76" is a multiplayer game there is no pausing at all whenever you are playing the game, even when you bring up the main menu, so why would V.A.T.S. be any different?

This major shift, no matter how small it may seem, has completely changed my favorite part of the franchise in a way that I don't think is worth it. And with Bethesda most likely not changing back this change, it looks like I will need to start playing "Fallout 4" again to relieve my V.A.T.S. itch.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
