Falling In Love with Your Major

The moment you realize that your career was not want you want to do for the rest of your life. I knew that coming to college, I would need to have plan A and a plan B because you never know what will happen. I started to realize that I was not in the right place and did not feel the passion of teaching elementary students.

When I went to go do my observations hours, I realized I wanted to focus more on one subject only and that I wouldn’t be able to handle elementary kids. At time that I realized that I had to go change my major but, I didn't know how much it would change. I talked to my adviser at the time and she told to follow my instinct and go ahead and change. This past January, I change my major to secondary education with social studies. This was my plan B if I didn’t like my plan A and I’m thankful for my adviser who didn’t mind me following my dreams.

The reason I picked Social Studies was because I wanted to learn more about the world and where it started and how we understand our history and how we are using the history to help us better our future. Also, I wanted to learn more information than what I already knew so that I could understand my options and hear both sides of a story.

I want to understand what happens in the world so that I can teach my future students to hear and listen to both sides of a story and not make opinions right away. Also, to read all the facts and opinions of everyone to say what they have to say about topic. The only reason I pick this major is because I want to be voice where everything is not always black and white.

The classes I have this semester made me realize that I’m on the right path because I believe that I can teach and help my future students understand the history of the world. The classes are so interesting that I love that they question everything about history. They make you rethink and review what you have learn in the past and think about the opposite side and what is was like to be on that side. So far I’m falling in love with my major and I know that I’m going to love to teach it.

To leave you with something if you have something you are passion about something go ahead and try it out. We all family and friends and the world who influences us on how and what to think about our future. You should not let them take control of what is going on your head, you make your opinions about things and if they don’t like, they have to live with it because that who you are. Go into the world and travel and discover new things. Enjoy beginning you and fall in love with what makes you happy. Because they always say “choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
