Fall fashion trends are fresh, hot off the fashion week runways. Get them while they are HOT! Fashion week gives designers a chance to showcase their collections for the upcoming season, but it gives the rest of the world a sneak peek at the upcoming fashion trends. The month long showcase always begins in New York at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, then travels across the pond to London Fashion Week, then hops on over to Milan Fashion Week and finally, concludes in the city of love, Paris Fashion Week. All of the Fall 2015 Fashion Weeks have ended, which means the fashion world is buzzing with new emerging fashion trends.
Colors: Pantone releases a color palette each season containing the most popular fashion color. If you are like me and you suddenly realize the only colors you own are black, grey, and some more black, Pantone's color report is a real lifesaver when you're shopping for colored clothing. Since the report has some strange color names, I put my own interpretation of the color in parentheses to reduce confusion. If you'd like to see the colors yourself, I provided the link for the Fall 2015 Pantone Fashion Color Report at the end of this page. The colors for fall 2015 include earthy tones like “dried herb" (army green) and “marsala" (a dark rusty red). The report also included a few bold colors like “cashmere rose" (a soft pink), “cadmium orange" (light orange) and “amethyst orchid" (vibrant grape.)
The colors found in the fall color report were visible in many of the collections for fall 2015, even though color trends seemed to differ from fashion week to fashion week. London's runways were pretty and pink with collections containing multiple pink ensembles. The fashion shows in Milan were RED HOT with top designers, like Fendi and Dolce & Gabbana, who used red as a statement color in their collections. Many of New York's fashion shows had a slight gothic theme, which means black is the new black. The runways in Paris took a more neutral approach to their collections by having lots of white and black pieces.
Capes: Even though capes began gaining momentum last fall, I am happy to announce that they are here to stay. Capes and ponchos were a popular trend for outerwear and made appearances on several runways like Chanel, Chloe, and Delpozo. Everyone should have a cape in their closet for this fall because they add flare to any outfit. I mean every super hero needs a cape, right? Well, women are better than any regular super heroes because well, we can do it in four inch heels.
Pleats: Pleats are making a comeback! Fashion icons such as Marc Jacobs and Gucci included this retro fashion trend in their Fall 2015 collections. Pleats give clean lines and structure to any dress or skirt. The lines of the pleat draw the eye toward the center of the body which gives a slimming effect to any body shape. It is a fashion trend that translates well between any age group or body size.
Textures: Textures this past winter included heavy materials like wool, tweed, and heavier knits. The Fall 2015 textures have a softer, cozier element to them with textures like velvet, fleece, and suede. These textures have been seen on skirts, dresses, jackets, and shoes, which gives you more options when styling this trend.
Groovy Influences: 70's fashion with a bohemian twist was the most common trend found on the Fall 2015 runways. All the flared pants, turtle necks, retro prints and suede will have us singing “Bohemian Rhapsody", and grooving to “Shake, Shake, Shake!" the whole fall season.
