Faith, Trust, And... Pixie Dust?

It really isn't about Peter Pan at all.

"Peter Pan" has always been one of my favorite Disney movies. I don’t know why; there’s just something about it that makes me love it. Maybe it’s the fact that they can fly, or maybe it’s the Lost Boys, or how Wendy takes care of everyone. I don’t know. But I do know that as I have grown, the significance of the idea of faith, trust, and pixie dust has changed.

When I first watched the movie as a little kid, I thought that those were just the ingredients you need to fly. Now, I have learned that those are the ingredients for life. I know it sounds crazy that I think pixie dust is a necessity for life, but I’ll explain what I mean.

1. Faith

Life is going to throw everything it’s got at you. It’s going to have its ups and down and there is nothing you can do but have faith that it will all work out. You need to have faith in God that He has a plan and that you are on the right path. He knows what He is doing and where He is leading. You just have to follow that path and have faith that it will all work out.

You also will need to have faith in yourself. Life isn’t easy, but you need to believe that you are strong enough to make it through whatever happens and whatever curveballs are thrown at you. Trust me, there will be plenty, whether you are 18 or 30 or 55. If you have faith in yourself, then you can accomplish anything you set out to do and overcome any obstacle that is placed in your path.

2. Trust

This is harder than faith, but it’s necessary. You have to trust that God knows what He doing. In our lives, we cannot understand what happens or why. But He knows and you need to trust in Him. That’s the way it works. You can sit and scream for answers, and sometimes you might get them, and other times you won’t. The times you don’t are the times that you need to trust in God more than ever.

And as before, you need to trust yourself. You know what is best for you. Even if you don’t think you know, deep down you do. It doesn’t matter what other people are saying about your decision. They are not in your situation, so they don’t know.

And lastly, you need to trust that people will support you, no matter what. If they don’t, they aren’t needed in your life. Your friends and you family are the ones that support you and trust that you are able to make your own decisions.

3. Pixie Dust

Now I am going to explain what I mean by needed pixie dust. I obviously know that pixie dust isn’t real. However, I’m looking into what the symbolism is for it. Pixie dust, in my opinion, is the symbol of childhood wonder and imagination. You need that wonder in life. You need to ask questions like, “Why is the sky blue?” and then find the answers. Don’t just let people tell you what is right and wrong, but wonder about it yourself and find your own answers. You can't expect anyone to be able to give you all the answers to life. You need that childhood wonder to lead you to find your own answers to any questions you might have in your life.

The wonder that pixie dust symbolizes is essential because it makes it impossible for the world to ever lose its little spark of magic.

All it takes is faith, trust, and a little bit of pixie dust.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
