After an early start and a long day of classes, I find myself in my room seeking refuge from the outside world. I ponder about the abundance of homework that has accumulated over the past few days, and I remind myself, “Cody, you need to start on your homework.” The procrastinator in me pushes off the homework once again.
I see my PlayStation 4 controller, and it’s calling my name. “Cody, come play some video games. Take your mind off the harsh and cruel world and show me some love.” As I think to myself, 'How is the controller even talking to me?' I brush this statement off, believing now that I’m truly insane.
I ultimately give up on trying to complete my homework and rush to my PlayStation. I turn it on and wait for the load screen to ask whether I want to play "Fallout 4" or "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3?" I think to myself for a second and decide to play "Black Ops."
As I’m playing the game, I reminisce back to the old days when I would get together with my best friends in high school and play "Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2." We would have the greatest time just hanging out together and beating each other in free-for-all.
I remember how much I missed "Modern Warfare 2." To me, "Modern Warfare 2" was one of the best games ever made. It also allowed me to make amazing memories with my friends that I will never forget.
As I continued to play "Black Ops 3," I kept thinking of "Modern Warfare" and how "Black Ops" would never be able to live up to or surpass "Modern Warfare." It made me disgusted and it eventually made quit playing "Black Ops" for a few days.
After a couple days passed of not playing the game, I thought long and hard about how I shouldn’t let past experiences and memories, ruin new experiences and possible memories. "Black Ops" shouldn’t be compared to something of the past that it couldn’t ever outshine.
Thinking of this, we all need to take this into account in every situation in our lives. We don’t need to let past experiences affect present or future experiences. We need to live in the moment and live in it to the best of our abilities.
I hope this helped you as much as it has helped me. At least, we now know that video games are good for something.
Now, back to my PlayStation…
