Exclusive Interview with Rising YouTube Star Sniping Soup
Dallas Young

Freshman Dallas Young is entering college with more success than most graduates ever achieve. His YouTube channel "Sniping Soup" gains a half a million views every month. His energetic personality and comedy draw new subscribers in. The 18-year-old from South Carolina began his journey to YouTube fame at the age of 14 when he was just in 8th grade.

Below is an exclusive interview with Dallas:

How did you get started in the YouTube community?

Dallas: I started uploading stuff that I enjoyed doing, just acting stupid on video games.

Can you explain what your channel is about?

Dallas: Gaming, mainly playing the game how it should not be played. When I was younger, I used to mess with other gamers online, but more recently I've tried to be funny in other ways.

What inspires you to keep creating content?

Dallas: More people watching. I get a lot of comments and a lot of views and even hate every now and then.

What is it like having fan base of 81,000 subscribers?

Dallas: It's weird because I never thought people would actually watch. It turns out, some people do and its pretty cool. You get to communicate across the world, it's interesting.

Have you ever been recognized by a fan in public?

Dallas: Last week actually. A kid said, "Hey, um, you're Sniping Soup, right? I really love your videos!" It was weird.

What do you see in your future of making videos on YouTube?

Dallas: I don't know. I just want to make a career out of it no matter what I do. I would do gaming and maybe extra stuff on the side when I get to that point.

What do you like to do other than making videos?

Dallas: Guitar, mostly, and also school.

Could your fans expect to see any of your music on your channel in the future?

Dallas: Probably on a second channel if I ever decided to do that.

What advice would you give to other teenagers trying to start a channel?

Dallas: Just upload what you enjoy doing and be yourself in your videos. Don't be fake. Take time and put effort into everything you do.

Dallas edits all of the videos on his channel himself. His talent is recognized by others outside of the YouTube community. He made videos for the local sheriff's department, designed video thumbnails for another YouTube channel with over 2 million subscribers, and won the Media Technology Department Award at his high school. All of Dallas' editing skills were self-taught by watching videos.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
