Everything You Need For Your First Kitchen

I am totally a list person, so when back to school season rolls around, I have lists on lists of what I need. This year I will be lucky enough to have my own kitchen, which means I need to purchase everything for what that entails. Here is my list so far separated into use.

Preparation

Measuring Tools

Measuring tools will be essential for almost any recipe you make in your kitchen, so make sure you get sturdy ones. Dry measuring cups, wet measuring cups and measuring spoons are all on my list.

Peeler

Although I have seen people successfully peel their veggies with a knife, I do not trust myself to do this, so I will definitely be getting a peeler.

Knives

Good knives are also super important for cooking, as they will make your job in the kitchen that much easier, faster and safer. I know for sure that I will be purchasing a chef's knife and a serrated knife.

Cutting Board

A cutting board is especially important in a rented apartment as to not scratch the counter tops. Make sure to get a dishwasher safe one to make your life that much easier.

Mixing Bowls

I love to bake, so I know that a large mixing bowl is a must on my list, and of course, it will serve many other purposes in your kitchen.

Cooking Supplies

Heatproof Rubber Spatula

I use this for almost everything, so I will probably end up taking more than one of them to school with me (always a good idea to have a backup).

Wood Spoon

Because rubber is not always the best option when cooking, a wooden spoon will definitely be in my repertoire.

Cookware

How else are you going to cook without cookware? I'll be packing at least one frying pan, pot and baking sheet.

Oven Mitts

I burn myself all the time thinking I do not need oven mitts for touching something in the oven.

Servingware

Servingware is an item of lesser importance on my list, as a regular fork and spoon will totally do the trick. However, I will probably be purchasing a ladle and tongs, since they either are irreplaceable or serve dual purposes.

Cleaning Supplies

Sponges

I will be packing a lot of sponges, as they tend to be one of the most used and abused items in my kitchen. Plus, they tend to get gross and germy pretty quickly when not properly cared for.

Towels

Depending on how good your dishwasher is, or if you even have one, you might be doing lots of dishes. I will have lots of very absorbent dish towels on hand so I can do as little laundry as possible. Towels to dry dishes on are also important.

Rubber Gloves

I hate when my hands smell weird after washing dishes so durable rubber gloves to do dishes are a must in my book. Plus, they protect your hands from getting dried out in the cleaning process.

Dish Soap

My skin tends to get super dried out in the winter, so I'll do anything I can do to help save my hands. For me, that means using moisturizing dish soap.

Apron

I am messy and I fully admit to that, which means I will be heading to college with a collection of cute aprons in tow.

Eating

Tupperware

Portioning for one person is going to be tough, but tupperware with a good seal will allow you to keep your leftovers or to even meal prep for the week, if that's how you roll.

Silverware

You are going to use this every day at every meal, so buying silverware that works for you and lasts through wash after wash is a must. Plus you have to look at it all the time, so it should be cute.

Tableware

The same goes for tableware like mugs, plates, glasses, and bowls. Make sure everything is dishwasher and microwave safe; it will make your life a lot easier!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
