To some, running is a way to get fit. To some, running is something they never intend to take part in ever. However, to others, running is a part of them. It is impossible to put the emotional rollercoaster of being a runner into words. To understand truly, one must experience it for themselves. Running and I have gone through quite an interesting relationship. So here's a list of all things I would like to say to the sport of running:
1. It's really mean of you to make my breathing pattern sound like a choking grizzly bear.
2. I don't like how you come back to haunt me when I don't stretch well enough...it's rude.
3. Also, when you're the reason I'm on crutches or require a brace, that makes me really frustrated.
4. Having to spend a few paychecks on new sneakers every season is really inconvenient.
5. Those mind games you play with me mid-run are really not what I need.
6. I hate it when I put so much work in only for you to let me down.
7. I don't know if you know this, but I've shed many a tear because of you.
8. I never faced such internal struggle until I became involved with you.
9. But thanks for giving me an excuse to eat unfathomable amounts of carbs.
10. And for putting me in somewhat decent physical shape.
11. I now subconsciously have the habit of consuming large amounts of water to stay hydrated and that's not a bad thing.
12. I met most of my best friends through you so that's pretty important to shout you out for.
13. In fact, the entire running community is honestly a stone-cold pack of greatly inspiring people and bumping into one of them just makes my day.
14. Some people think it's cool that I know the metric system and that's all on you.
15. I've learned a lot about pushing my limits and a lot about myself in general because of you so that deserves a shout-out.
16. Thank you for always giving me something to work hard at and, in turn, keeping me a focused human being when everything else seemed to be falling to pieces.
17. Honestly, it makes me sad that a lot of people are too intimidated to give you a try.
18. It also sucks that even some people who run don't truly appreciate you.
19. It's wild that going a day without you feels so wrong.
20. Knowing that one day I may be too old and weak to go for a run every day is a somber thought I often avoid.
21. Truthfully, I know we've had our ups and downs. I know I've casted you aside and came crawling back to you. There is something about you that I will never get enough of and with that being said, I love you. Thank you for it all.
Running is hard. That is the bottom line. That is the reason so many are apprehensive to become a runner. However, running is also a beautiful gift. Truthfully, I wouldn't be the person I am if I never experienced the painful, confusing, emotionally traumatizing journey of running.
