Everyone Needs a Hero

Everyone needs a hero. And heroes aren’t always the most powerful people in the world or the people who save the world from all evil. There are no specific traits that someone has to have to make him or her your hero. Your hero can be absolutely anyone that you look up to or anyone who inspires you.

Who’s my hero you ask? My hero would most definitely be my dad. I look up to my dad so much; he has accomplished many things especially involving his career and seeing that truly inspires me. I have always been a daddy’s girl and as I see myself grow, I know that my dad has played a huge role in it all.

My dad and I share a bond unlike any other. I know that may sound cliché but it’s the truth. One thing my dad and I love to do together is run. I love running with him because every time I am about to give up and start walking, he notices and says things like “come on Ash” and “we’ve got this” so I know that we are in it together. It not only makes me continue to run because and he is an authoritative figure in my life but also because he is giving me confidence and encouragement with his words.

My dad often tells me that he considers himself lucky to be in the occupational position that he is in because he does not have a college degree. He has an amazing job and he is very skilled in his line of work. I admire him in that sense because I see how much his colleagues need his assistance and his input on projects that they do. That shows me that if I put enough effort into what I want to do, I will achieve my goals. It also gives me hope that I can do anything I set my mind to.

My dad can come across very serious and intimidating at times most definitely, just as anyone could. I have always admired how my dad is always very blunt with the things that he says, especially on the parent side of things. He always gets his point across in a way that is clear and concise. Even though it isn’t always what I want to hear and sometimes not what I agree with, I know that he just wants the best for me, which is the reason behind his bluntness.

Of course I could go on and on about how much my dad means to me and what else makes him my hero. Those are just some big aspects that really stand out that make him a great hero to me. As I said before, your hero can be anyone. By no means do they have to fit any sort of criteria. Whoever you look up to that makes you want to strive for greatness, that is your hero. My hero is my dad. Who is your hero?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
