As a female in today’s society, I see the ignorance of many people when it comes to feminism. Let me just get some things out in the open. A feminist is not a woman who is trying to seem better than men. A feminist is not a woman who hates men. To be a feminist is to be someone who thinks women and men deserve equal rights. Are women better than men? No. Are men better than women? No. We are all human. We are all equal. Why do we need feminism? We need feminism because women are not being paid equal to men for doing the same work. We need feminism because women are being blamed for being raped. We need feminism because the first thing that comes up on google when you type in “Why you should” is “Why you should beat your wife.” That is repulsive. And that is why we need feminism. It is not a problem with genders, it is a problem with humanity.
Feminism is portrayed as just a stand for women, but its not. Feminism is for men too. Men, for some reason, have been convinced they aren't allowed to cry. Men are not a brick wall. They cannot hold everything in, that could lead to some serious mental health issues. Why are toys at McDonalds still being classified as boys or girls? Because society is messed up, and we have our gender roles we need to live by. If my little brother can't get the girls toy from McDonalds without feeling “gay,” then why don’t I just put my apron back on and stay in the kitchen? Let me get something else clear. I do not need you to hold the door open for me, it's called just being polite. We have come a long way when it comes to feminism. Women used to be property, owned by their husbands. Now women own businesses. Men work for women. Is that a bad thing? No. I don't think so, because I don’t have a problem working for a man. A man shouldn't have a problem working for me, or any woman. Charlotte Moore said “Feminists constantly grow new teeth, to replace the ones they lose shredding the tough flesh of their victims.” The idea that any woman wouldn't call herself a feminist disgusts me. “In 2013, female full-time workers made only 78 cents for every dollar earned by men, a gender wage gap of 22 percent,” said by Institute for Women's Policy Research. Women not being paid equal is just wrong. Feminism is to be strong. To be strong is to have power. Power is feminism. “Since 1923 activists have been trying to pass the Equal Rights Amendment, which states, “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied by the U.S. or by any state on account of sex.” We have been trying to get gender equality for a long time now.
