This past week, I've been listening to "Even If" by Mercy Me.
At first, I loved the song because they reference my all-time favorite hymn, It Is Well, but as I started to listen to the other lyrics, I realized how true they are, and I found a new love for this song.
"I've stood on this stage night after night//Reminding the broken it'll be alright//But right now, oh right now I just can't"
As humans, we get so caught up in helping other broken people that we forget to remind ourselves that it's okay for us to be broken, as well. My mama has always told me, "Everyone has their good days, and everyone has their bad. Sometimes you just have to cry it out," and we forget that it's okay for us to cry it out.
"It's easy to sing//When there's nothing to bring me down//But what will I say//When I'm held to the flame//Like I am right now"
It's so easy to praise God when life is sunshine and rainbows, but when your life is in the midst of a storm, we often overlook or choose to not see God's hand in the storm.
"May I never forget. On my best day, that I still need God as desperately as I did on my worst day." -unknown
"I know You're able and I know you can//Save through the fire with Your mighty hand//But even if You don't//My hope is You alone//I know know the sorrow and I know the hurt//Would all go away if You'd just say the word//But even if You don't//My hope is You alone."
This lyric really caught my attention. No matter what fire or hurt we're going through, we have to trust in God and his plan and that he will provide.
"They say it only takes a little faith//To move a mountain//Good thing//A little faith is all I have right now//But God, when You choose//To leave mountains unmovable//Give me the strength to be able to sing//It is well with my soul"
The Bible says in Matthew 17:20 that if have faith as small as a mustard seed, then you can move mountains. But when God chooses to not move those mountains, I pray that He would allow me to trust Him through it all.
"You've been faithful, You've been good//All of my days//Jesus, I will cling to You//Come what may//‘Cause I know You're able//I know You can."
Christ has never let us down, and He never will. Cling to the cross, and He will and He can.
"It is well with my soul//It is well//It is well with my soul"
It is well, it always has been, and it always will be.
