Don't get me wrong, I am loving my time off from school and being able to spend time with my family. But I miss college at the same time.
Here are seven reasons why I am excited to go back to college.
1. I miss my college town.
I go to a big university in a small town; it has its advantages and disadvantages. One of the things I have heard from new students that come from bigger cities is that there is "nothing to do" compared to back home. This may be true, in some aspects, but there is SO much to do in Troy. You just have to know where to look. While living in Troy and going to Troy University, I have seen that students have a lot of opportunities that they have yet to take advantage of.
2. My Campus
While being away for the summer, one thing I have really missed is my campus. Troy has a beautiful campus, there is so much to see, and it is always well-kept. On any given day, no matter the season, you can see people working to make our campus beautiful. I cannot count how many times that I have seen landscapers planting flowers. Wherever I walk through campus, I love looking at all of the statues, whether it is the "Thinking Man," "Hecter" in the main quad, or one of the many others. The Troy campus has so many unique qualities about it that makes it homey but still professional. I love finding new study places to go to whenever I explore the campus, and I love being able just hang my eno up and enjoy the day.
3. I miss the close bonds that I have with people.
During my freshman year of college, I met SO many people through clubs, class, volunteering and so much more. During the spring semester, I started working as an aide for a local private school. I would go once a week and work with the children and faculty for a few hours. This, as well as the many other encounters with people, helped me form bonds with the most unlikely of people. While being away, I have missed seeing all of these people on a daily basis.
4. Rush
Going into my Freshman year, I decided to go through Recruitment. It was one of the best and most nerve-racking decisions that I have ever made. If I could, I would go through it all again in a heartbeat. I honestly could not imagine my life without all of my 100 plus sisters and the bonds we have made with one another. I cannot wait to come back to campus and be reunited with my sisters for Spirit Week and then Recruitment, and I am so excited about getting to watch all of the new girls come running to our house on Bid Day and trusting in the process all over again. Thinking about going back to campus for Recruitment makes me happy for all that is to come.
5. My Sisters
Look to number four. I miss my sisters dearly. I miss late nights staying up together, painting banners, being silly, studying and overall just being there for one another. No matter how hard school can become, my sisters are the ones that are there to give me a helping hand. These women have become an essential part of my life. All that we have accomplished together amazes me. The saying is you just don't find friends, but you find future bridesmaids, which is so true! While being away for the summer, I have seen so many of their adventures and accomplishments. I can't wait to see them and hear more about their break when we are all reunited.
6. Food
All last year, I dreaded the campus food, and now I am a little over halfway through with summer break, craving that very food. I can smell it now, Saga filled with a diversity of aromas varying from fried food, fruits and veggies, sweets from the bakery, pasta and vegan food to so much more! TC, or otherwise known as the Trojan Center, has its own delicious treats that bring students from all different cultures and ethnicities together. Food overall at Troy is one thing that everyone can understand no matter the language. With such a diverse student population, it's a good conversation starter for many!
7. Teachers
No matter how crazy they may seem at times, the teachers at Troy have hearts of gold. I can not tell you how many times I have seen these Professors go above and beyond for their students. Whether it is being willing to answer their emails, taking time to meet with their students during office hours, or giving them advice on real world problems, Troy's faculty and staff is willing to teach not only lessons in the classroom, but also those that will be of service for years to come, no matter how difficult or frustrating they may seem at times.
No matter the reason, I hope you are just as excited for this upcoming school year as I am!
