Serving. What a job it is. If you have ever had worked in a restaurant as a waiter or waitress, you come across people from all walks of life. I have a worked in restaurants since I was a freshman in college and loved it ever since. Not only is it a great way to make money but I have gotten to meet and connect with people from all across the world.
Being a server you can endure the funniest comments and questions from customers, especially those traveling from out of town. However serving in New England, specifically in cities or travel destinations by the water, where many tourists visit, is unlike anything you may think of...
If you are a server in New England, chances are you have encountered moment similar to these. If you are from the area then you will know exactly what we are talking about. For those of you who have nothing to do with New England, you will be one step ahead of the others when you finally decide to visit!
1. "Is that the pond or the ocean?"
Excuse me while I pull out my atlas.
2. "Where do lobsters come from?"
We actually make them right here!
3. "So what is the difference between the single lobster and twin lobster choices on the menu?"
Well you see, sometimes just by happenstance we manage to find identical twin lobsters. So we thought it would be cool to serve them together!
4. "How many clams come in the clam chowder?"
How many grains of sand are on the beach?
5. *Goes to put on lobster bib*....
"Oh sir actually that is the...."
*Proceeds to try to fit arms through the neck hole...*
6. "For the Fish and Chips.. What kind of chips are they?"
They happen to be French.... :)
7. *Pronounces scol-lops as scal-lahps*
8. *Middle of winter*
"Do you swim in the water often?"
