When I first watched Pixar’s "The Incredibles," I wasn’t really struck by Edna Mode’s character. She was goofy and oftentimes outrageous, but it didn’t stop me from re-watching "The Incredibles" about fifty-eleven times. Eventually, I moved on to different movies, but when I was about 17, I re-watched the movie and had a whole new outlook on the small, round glassed woman who seemed to know more than she was letting on. Her quotes were absolutely enlightening and can serve us well into our heroic careers in life.

1. “I never look back, darling. It distracts from the now."

Oh man, if you didn’t get this lesson the first time, it’s a good one to learn now. Edna, when faced with her repeated “cape-tastrophies”, realized that if she let her failures define her and become part of her identity, she would never progress as a designer. In life, we make mistakes and mess up. We can't let these little hiccups define us, no matter what.

2. "Luck favors the prepared."

While I don't fully believe in luck, being prepared is always always a plus. If you're in a bind, but you're prepared for that bind, you can do anything. Of course, being prepared for everything in life is unrealistic, but you can try!

3. "Go, confront the problem. Fight. WIN!"

Confront, confront, confront! Too many people these days like to run away from their problems in various ways, but if you put your best foot forward and attempt to solve it with what you've got - the odds are that you'll do better than just win, you'll thrive!

4. "Feh!"

6. "Pull yourself together!"

Confidence doesn't mean you know everything, neither does it mean that you're intimidating. It means that you're just secure in yourself! Edna displays a healthy amount of confidence (and crazy), all while being a genius. So let your freak flag fly!

So whatever you do, do it with confidence and channel your inner Edna.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
