Healthy Food Is So Much More Expensive Than Junk Food And That's What's Wrong With Our Society

We shouldn't have to break the bank to eat healthy.

I've always been the type of person to choose junk food over anything healthy or anything that's actually good for my body. Why? Because obviously, junk food just tastes so much better. All that sugar and sodium just add a better flavor than healthy food.

However, I finally reached that point in my life where I want to do some sort of exercise and I want to eat healthy. Not because I think that I need to lose weight or because there's something "wrong" with my body...I just made a decision to try to be healthier and be better for myself.

And I quickly found out how expensive it is to live a healthy lifestyle.

I currently work at a fast food restaurant and the prices are ridiculous. A salad is almost $9, but most of the chicken or sandwich meals are less than $7.

Now, that may not seem like a big difference, but as a college student trying not to spend lots of money, I can't spend $9+ on one meal. And yes, I shouldn't be eating out if I'm trying to save money, but prices are no different at grocery stores.

The junk food is so much cheaper. I can buy ice cream or cookies for cheap...cheaper than some of the fruit. It's just a few dollars for me to buy things to make spaghetti or other pastas, but buying everything to make a nice salad starts to get expensive again.

Yes, I can sit down and budget all of my money and spend all this time figuring out how to afford what I need, but it's just so much more convenient to save money by buying the cheaper, non-healthy foods.

I just shouldn't have to break the bank in order to be able to afford good, healthy foods.

Falling For Fall

Super Cute Home Decor and Food Ideas for the Autumn Season.

Jamie Cahoon

I don't know about you but Autumn is my favorite season of the year. The leaves are falling, the air is crisp and tops of the mountains begin to be sprinkled with snow. Being as I'm not Haloween's biggest fan, I love to decorate my home with super cute fall decorations. I have found 11 of the cutest DIY decor items that are both inexpensive and adorable. Ballin' on a college kids budget makes for fun craft nights instead of buying the items at a ridiculous mass produced price.

Slavery Was NOT Abolished

Jeevti from Pakistan would like to tell you so herself.

Unfortunately, at this time of year, we tend to overlook how incredibly blessed we are. We live in a free world, where we should not have to fear being penalized for our gender, sexual orientation, beliefs, or values. This is a fact we take for granted; in many other countries, simply being born female makes you an immediate target.

My Ethnicity

Hispanic is not a race... it’s an ethnicity. The term Hispanic describes a group of people whose common thread is language and/or culture. I’m a Hispanic woman born in Argentina to Korean parents. I self-identify as Hispanic/Latina and my personal experiences can’t be summarized by the color of my skin or the languages on my tongue. That is because every single person in the universe has a unique experience. Whether someone labels me as Korean or Argentine or American, that will never change my experiences as a Spanish speaker, immigrant, child of divorced parents, Californian, college graduate (Go Bears!), omnivore, writer, or any other label I choose for myself.

I have had the opportunity to visit so many places in my lifetime, and recently one of those places was Nashville, Tennessee. There is so much to do and see in Nashville but here are some of my favorites that I would highly recommend.

Your Work Week As Told By Michael Scott And Stanley Hudson

"The Office" is basically the best American TV show created in the past 15 years (you can fight me on this). And through all its hilarity and cringe-worthy "that would never happen in real life" moments, the show really does have a lot of relatable themes, as can be seen by the little compilation I put together of Michael Scott and Stanley Hudson.
