Living at college can be tough because your mother is not there to discourage you from eating pizza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You are in total control of what you eat and drink on a daily basis, not going to lie that sounds pretty scary because most will choose soda and pizza, instead of chicken and veggies!
Well thank goodness you are reading this because I am going to tell you how to eat healthy at college with no effort!
Morning tips:
1. Eggs
Eggs are a great source of protein and it will keep you full, instead of snacking throughout they day!
2. Yogurt
Yogurt is one of the best ways to get your calcium, protein, fiber, and to keep you full longer!
3. Granola
Healthy carbs to put in your yogurt or you could eat it with fruit and milk!
4. Fruit
A banana or apple is a good start because they are healthy carbs, but if you add peanut butter to either of these, it becomes a low calorie and high protein meal!
Lunch tips:
1. Guacamole or avocados
A healthy fat that is high in protein and glutathione, an important antioxidant that prevents aging and helps maintain your overall health. Add it to a sandwich, Mexican bowl, or anything you like!
2. Whole grain bread
I know what you are thinking, "YUCK" because white bread tastes so much better! However if you get honey wheat or white wheat, it tastes the same but it adds nutritional value!
3. Turkey and chicken over red meats
Chicken and turkey meats contain less fat and lean protein. Lean red meat is good in moderation because it can have more vitamins, but most of the time it is more calories and high in fat.
4. Sandwiches OVER wraps!
This sounds like a shock right? Every time my friends go on a diet they go straight for the spinach or whole grain wraps. DO NOT BE A FOOL! Wraps are about 300 calories, while bread slices are 60 calories each!
Dinner tips:
1. Eat until full
If you are foodie, like myself, it is better to eat until you are full at dinner, instead of snacking later. Eating a 500-calorie pasta is way better vs. a 300-calorie meal and then having a 300 calorie snack later!
2. Eat carbs!
LADIES, you had a long day you deserve a nice dinner that has carbs without feeling guilty! Here are a list of carbs that have nutritional value: Brown rice, quinoa, whole grain pasta, brown rice pasta noodles, and my favorite SUSHI RICE (amen)!
3. VEGGIES
Add veggies to every dinner meal! It's so easy and simple. Add veggies to pasta, eat a potato, put veggies in your quesadilla, eat broccoli with your chicken or lean beef! This is the best way to add nutritional value to your day, every day!
Dessert tips (bet you didn't think this was in here):
Being the sweet tooth that I am, there is no way I am giving up my sugar!
1. Froyo over ice cream
You can cut up to half your calories if you have a cup of froyo over ice cream! Heavy cream ain't no joke, avoid it!
2. Chocolate chips
My childhood best friend eats chocolate chips when she is feeling a sugar rush because you taste the chocolate, but not the guilt!
3. Nutella with fruit
Nutella with fruit is a lot better than five cookies or a huge bowl of chips.
3. The Sprite cake
Okay, get ready for your mind to be blown, I saved the best for last! So Sprite soda actually takes the responsibility of eggs when making a cake rise! If you take your favorite cake mix, water, oil, and a can of sprite you just cut a lot of the cake's calories. There is no nutritional value, but hey it's cool to make a cake with a can of sprite!
Hope you enjoyed my article! Say NO to college 15!
