5 Tips for Fall Fashion

Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Style

Ever since I can remember, my parents hated when I wore sweatpants to school. I remember fighting with them over having to dress up or wear jeans every single day when all of my friends just got to bum out in sweats every day. I was always so upset when I couldn't wear what I wanted but today, I thank them for banning my sweatpants because today, I like to think of myself as somewhat of a fashion guru. I am always looking at the latest style trends on Pinterest or through magazines like Glamour and Cosmo and most times I consider jeans to be more comfy than leggings and heels to be more comfy than sneakers. So, as all us white girls are getting ready for all that fall fashion, here are 5 of my favorite fashion tips:

1. BLACK IS EVERYTHING

If you know me, you know that 75% of my wardrobe consists of black clothing. My sister asked me the other day "Christina, is it weird if I wear black on black?" My response: "IS THAT EVEN A QUESTION?" I love the color black because it literally matches with anything and everything. You can wear it in any season, it can look dressy and casual, and it truly never goes out of style.

2. Gym shoes or heels?

Yes I am the girl walking around campus with wedges on but no I am not the girl struggling to walk. I'm sorry but I know you may walk far distances around campus from class to class but sometimes they just complete the whole outfit. I'm not saying you'll never see me in Nikes or Chucks, but I appreciate my heeled boots and wedges because not only is my outfit complete, but my calves are getting a burning workout as well. (Just please make sure you practice walking in heels before you decide to wear them in public- biggest pet peeve)

3. Layer. Layer. Layer.

Fall basically means layers. I have no shame in owning over 30 different color cardigans. I have no shame in owning over 30 different color ponchos and scarves. Layers give you the opportunity to get creative with your outfit and also get warm for those chilly fall days around campus.

4. Accessorize.

I love accessories! By adding a simple necklace, ring, scarf, headband, hat, purse, or even nail polish, you can change your entire fall look. (Black nail polish is my go-to-obvi!)

5. Be smart. Be confident.

It's simple. Shop on clearance racks. Have no shame in admitting you bought that baggy, grandma sweater for $2 at Salvation Army. Besides, these clearance or thrift store items are things people don't want anyways so you will find unique items while the other 15 white girls in your class will be wearing the same Forever21 blouse sold at the front of the store. As long as you are confident in what you are wearing, you can make it werk gurl! There is no need to spend your entire paycheck on a new wardrobe.

In all honesty, find your own style. Take your time when you shop. I even like to shop alone so I am not influenced by others' opinions.

Just keep it easy, breezy, and beautiful, Covergirl. Don't overthink your outfit choice because who really cares what people think. Be creative, look for sales, and treat every day like you just walked off the runway.

My go-to stores:

Target, H&M, Forever21, sheinside.com, Salvation Army

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
