In This Article:

Graduating a semester early is something that many college students decide to do. While the percentage of students graduating early varies from school to school, there's one thing that all college students graduating early share: "Am I sure?" We have a million thoughts running through our heads every second.

1. What am I going to do after I graduate?

Giphy

They always say major doesn't equal career. But what the heck do I want for my career? What do I want to do with my life? I only have so much time left to figure it out!

2. Omg these job applications though

Giphy

Job applications all ask the same questions... over... and over... and over. Why can't they just auto-fill in my responses. God knows I've filled out like 30+ applications already.

3. Maybe I’ll just push graduation back a semester

Giphy

Well... if I fail this class I can push back graduation at least another semester. Then I would have more time to figure out what I want to do and spend a little more time in college before going into the real world 100%.

4. No I’m poor I need to graduate

Giphy

However, I actually have zero dollars in my bank account to pay for any more rent or tuition. Not to even mention the countless bills I have to pay for college crap.

5. Where am I comfortable moving?

Giphy

There's an opportunity in the middle of Nebraska? I've never been there. How about Wisconsin? How many hours would I have to spend on the road to visit my closest relative?

6. Is it time to just drink away my worries?

Giphy

It's five o'clock somewhere right? Senior year means all the stress and none of the fun. How else are we supposed to make it through?

7. Senior year, don't care

Giphy

I don't care if Kappa Apple Pi has a big scandal. I've got an exam in two days but catch me at Mid instead. SYFI. #iykyk

8. Wow I’m gonna miss this place

Giphy

I'm going to miss all the little nuances of my semi-small college town. The cute brunch places, the things only college students do, all my friends, football, etc...

9. Wait... no I’m not

Giphy

On the other hand... I hate crowded bars and little freshman boys. Nevermind I am definitely ready to move on.

10. My last __________

Giphy

My last first day of school... my last football game... my last date function... this is all so weird.

11. How did time go by so fast?

Giphy

It's time??? Already??? How did we get here? I guess it's time to move on and decide what I'm going to do with the rest of my life now.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
