Hmm hmm, toasty! The amazing, scorching sun and constant rising temperatures keeping a thin layer of sweat clinging to my t-shirt.Taking a casual stroll on a sunny day no longer seems ideal, but not merely because of the heat. Along dingy sidewalks, gum wrappers, Chinese take-out containers, and empty water bottles are scattered and the hazy smog creates wonderful breathing difficulties.
Whether it's through a simple stroll through the park or scrolling though the most recent news stories, we've began to noticed the detrimental impact humans have had on the Earth. Simply said, the Earth is dying. While its resources are rapidly depleting, its beauty is diminishing. There is clear evidence, especially in recent events, that have showcased the tragic state of our Earth. By looking at these we can truly understand the ramifications of environmental destruction.
There is a pollution cloud masking a portion of China! China, people!
Let's hope that everyone has come to a general consensus that China is an enormous country. Now, picture that majority of that country coated in a think layer of chemical-infested pollution. How is this even a possibility? It's safe to say were at at Def-Con 5. China is rapidly revolutionizing it's industry and economy; however, the effects have left their nature in turmoil and a slew of health problems trickled in with the pollution. If you have to wear breathing masks in order to leave the house, isn't that a wake-up call?
Trunks are losing their trees.
Seen in Dr. Suess' classic children's book, the author even discusses the importance of saving the trees. Highlighting the terrifying consequences of our future without trees, the Lorax becomes the fighting warrior to save the trees. Sadly, what I had hoped would be a far-fetched idea when I was younger, is now becoming a brutal reality. Deforestation has always seemed to be an issue, but it was always an issue I merely heard about. For example, "Oh, more trees were chopped down in the Amazon." Well that's depressing, but I don't live in the Amazon so it can be difficult to empathize. However, now deforestation is happening in our very backyard; as populations are expanding, farmland and forests are being sold to the highest bidder.
The Great Barrier Reef is dying!
Yes, I understand the Great Barrier Reef isn't completely dead but we have to admit it's almost there. If you have to knit pick every little detail of an issue to lessen the severity, that's a large part of the issue. People are constantly undermining the environment an it's ability to survive the wretchedness we've forced in to endure. So in retrospect, the Great Barrier Reef IS dying. While toxic chemical are carelessly tossed into the oceans, it's coral becomes bleached and marine life loses their habitat.
These tragic occurrences barely scratch the surface of Earth's sufferings. Please, be mindful of our Earth and rather than appreciae what is left, start making improvements for the future. Because this is a future worth changing:
