Confessions Of A Past Teenage Drama Queen

There is a Drama Queen and King inside of all of us!

Confessions Of A Past Teenage Drama Queen

I have done it all. I put on a show. I cried all too much. I made a huge deal out of something miniscule. For as long as I can remember, I have always been classified as "dramatic". If you were to somehow get a hold of one of my home videos from my childhood, I promise you, I wouldn't disappoint.

Could I try and blame it on my surroundings? I'm sure I did some time or another. The truth was I was born this way. Though with age, I have definitely simmered down, there are times where I can revert back to my old ways. For those of you who considers themselves "Drama Queens", and "Drama Kings", or are given the title by your family, I have compiled a list of things I have done to see if any of our paths may have crossed:

1. When you are in the middle of an argument and you have a meltdown unnecessarily:

These are the times when you take things to a whole other level. You scream, cry, and maybe even stomp around a little, and when you look back on it, a more calm, cool, and collected version of yourself, you ultimately find that you may have escalated that particular situation WAY too much.

2. When you did anything to get out of something you didn't want to do:

A reward is long overdue for my mother for putting up with me as a child and young teenager. I happened to be quite the connoisseur at coming up with any and every possible excuse to get out of going to school. When the classic cold and sniffle was overdone, I became desperate. I became so desperate at times that I would have probably accidentally stubbed my toe and then claimed it was broken.

3. When you had to drag out an injury:

When I was a little girl, about three or four years old, I scraped my knee tripping up the stairs outside - I wouldn't walk for a week. I made my parents carry me around. I wouldn't let them put me down because I "couldn't walk". It wasn't until my mother threatened to take me to the hospital for x-rays that I said, "I think I'm better now," and proceeded to limp as if I had just overcome a major injury.

4. When you were unable to keep a secret or contain your emotions:

Especially as a child, my family liked to call me the "Star Ledger", because the second I heard big news, gossip, drama, or was told a secret, I had to tell someone. It just wasn't in my nature to keep anything in. Even if it wasn't something considered to be a "big deal", I sure made it seem like it before I said anything.

5. When just everything you do is over the top:

For some, our inner diva is always shining, and for others maybe not so much. I think there is a little "Drama Queen" and "Drama King" inside of all of us. I don't see any problem in embracing that!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
