Breaking Down 'Jersey Shore,' One Fake Tan At A Time

Let's take a moment to really explore the valuable lessons we can take away from "Jersey Shore".

As a New Jersey resident of almost nineteen years, I feel that I owe it to my state to explain what exactly goes down at the Jersey Shore. Those of you who got lured into the franchise of cheetah print, tanning addictions, and fist-pumping are not alone. I too am a victim of watching Snooki get way too drunk, Pauly D shouting loudly at inappropriate times, and J Woww threatening to injure another human.

Don't get me wrong, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching these storylines unfold, but I have also watched as the reputation associated with being from New Jersey has crumbled. This is why I would like to highlight some valuable lessons we can take away from this intriguing show.

“I'm sorry I punched you in the face.” -Sammi

It's important to remember to apologize and be the bigger person. Sometimes we mess up, but if you own up to your actions and take responsibility for what has occurred, forgiveness is possible.

“It's nice to get all the beef squashed out.” -J Woww

Try to rid your life of all toxic relationships and situations. It is better to resolve conflict than let it fester and grow. By holding onto anger, you are only hurting yourself.

“First impressions are everything. So, you gotta stay fresh to death, I call it: fresh outfit, fresh haircut, fresh tan.” -Pauly D

When you put time and energy into yourself, it will pay off. Self-care is very underrated but extremely important. Whether it be a run outside, a face mask, a new haircut, or a new outfit, giving yourself the attention you deserve really pays off.

“I heard you guys are mad at me, but I didn't do anything. So now I'm mad at you.”-Pauly D

I think we can all relate to this iconic statement. There has been a time in most of our lives when we have zero clue why someone is mad at us. Due to this lack of knowledge, we get frustrated, and in turn, we begin to feel angry at them with no real reasoning. Miscommunication is often the source of most evils.

“I'm not nice at all, but I'm being honest.” -Snooki

Lastly, we take a look at the one and only Snooki. Though there are many important lessons that can be learned from her numerous mistakes throughout the "Jersey Shore" seasons, one especially pertinent lesson is to be honest. Whether it be getting caught in the letter lie or her situation with The Situation, Snooki seems to be haunted by her lies. We've learned from her to tell the truth, even if it isn't what people want to hear.

I hope these explanations can shine some much-needed light on the positive lessons we can take away from this successful franchise. Hopefully one day, the reputation of the shore will return again to its prior glory.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
