This might seem like an obvious article to write, but in light of the first week of school at FIU, it is imperative to know what to wear to have a successful school year. Whether it's summer heading towards fall, or fall to spring, here are some dos and don'ts that can definitely make or break your day, or simply your outfit.
1. Leggings
Do: Wear leggings with the least crease-making underwear possible. This not only is more comfortable, because moving around with leggings can move the fabric and your skin can get irritated (aka chafing), but also it is visually more appealing. Your bottom will look slimmer and more defined, a great plus!
Example: Alessandra D'Ambrosio, a Victoria's Secret Angel, keeping it chill with leggings and a long pullover.
Don't: Wear leggings that are tight on you
Hun, If the leggings are overly tight, that probably means you should not wear them. You're taking too much of a risk of them tearing apart/your privates getting a public show/getting a major rash down there.
Example: Kim Kardashian, celebrity, covering herself from having her clearly transparent leggings photographed. #dontbekim
Pro Tip: If you HAVE to wear leggings that are slightly see-trough or semi tight, wear them with a long shirt to achieve a solid fall look.
2. Belts
Thank God someone centuries ago created an incredibly useful item called a belt, used to hold clothing items in place.
Do:
Wear them. They make you look more polished and put together. Also, there's no need to be pulling your pants up all the time.
Women: Look at Jessica Alba, who added this studded belt to rock her casual look.
Men: You cannot tell me Kevin Hart does not look good with that belt on and no underwear in sight. *yaaaas*
3. Shorts
I get it, we live in Miami, a city immersed in heat and humidity. However, that doesn't give you the right to give everyone a sight of your butt cheeks.
Do:
Wear shorts that are longer. An inch is not going to kill you, it will save a lot of people's eyesight.
Example: Beyoncé, Emma Watson, Rihanna, and Jennifer Lopez (all major babes) looking great with their sexy yet not-so-revealing shorts.
Don't:
That breeze that's under your butt is because you're moving. It's because it's hanging out, sweetie.
Example: Although Selena Gomez will always be bae, she got an 'F' in shorts shopping.
4. Crop tops/Short Shirts
The difference between a crop top and a short shirt is simple. A crop top lies on top of your belly button, while a short shirt lies over the belly button.
Do:
Wear crop top and short shirts selectively. This is going to sound bad, but don't wear a crop top or a short shirt if you can't pull it off. By this, I mean like putting high-waisted shorts to balance out the showing of skin. It's college, not Ocean and 7th.
Example: Miranda Kerr, Victoria's Secret Angel slaying the crop top game.
Pro Tip: Wear a jacket or sweater around your waist (like pictured above) for a great collected look!
Don't:
Wear a crop top/short shirt without thinking of bringing a jacket or cardigan. When it gets cold in GC, because it does, you will think back to this moment.
Example: Britney ... What were you thinking?
5. Shoes
The wrong choice of shoe can make or break someone's day.
Do:
Plan around what your schedule will be. If you're going to have a long day, wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes, or sandals, so your feet can breathe.
Example: Jourdan Dunn looking airport chic in her Adidas Superstar 2.0s.
Don't: If you have a presentation of some sort and have to wear heels or uncomfortable yet good-looking shoes, bring an extra comfortable pair for after! Your feet will deeply thank you.
Example: Lady Gaga's famous bacon shoes. I bet the person who gave her the idea was hungry.
