Overwatch players rejoice! Doomfist is here!
This past Thursday, July 27th 2016, Blizzard released the highly anticipated Doomfist (or Akande Ogundimu), a character whose existence has been known since the initial marketing campaign began for the game in late 2014.
It's hard to forget that moment; your first viewing of the original cinematic trailer for Overwatch. Within the first 2 minutes of the Pixar style short, a young boy exploring an apparent Overwatch museum recounts his knowledge of the great and powerful Doomfist while ogling his gauntlet in a display case. In our first introduction to the universe itself, the Doomfist hype began.
Doomfist's inclusion brings the playable character count to 25 in this fast-paced first-person shooter phenomenon. The first year of Overwatch has brought a wealth of free content including new maps, game modes within the Arcade mode, seasonal events, TONS of hero gallery additions and of course some easily lovable characters. Fans are loving Doomfist so much, they're already cosplaying as him at this year's San Diego Comic Con!

Three characters, Ana, Sombra and Orisa (GIRL POWER) all made their way into the game over the course of the first year of Overwatch. With Doomfist's addition only two months after the game's Anniversary event, its safe to say we can expect a continued commitment by the team at Blizzard to provide new content regularly.
So what does Doomfist offer to the Overwatch player? Here's a quick glance at his pros and cons.
Doomfist is a powerhouse of one shot destruction, assuming you can get the timing down. Lower HP characters stand little chance against an accurate Doomfist. One thing we can all agree on is that he's no friend to the tank class.
With one smash of his fist he can eliminate half of the HP of a fully healthy D.Va in mech mode. An incredibly wise decision by the development team, as tank players can often dominate a match with little standing between them and the coveted 'VICTORY' banner at the end of a game.
When first hearing about Doomfist and seeing some of the promotional content like this animated short, accepting a character with a melee heavy combat style was definitely difficult. Luckily, Doomfist's abilities do include a firing function from his hand cannon.
This guy is perfect for the combo-master in all of us. His other abilities, seismic slam and rising uppercut, can be used in harmony to deal massive blows to opponents, especially foes like Orisa or a pesky Torbjorn turret. All the while his powerful rocket punch does increased damage if the enemy is pushed into a wall, something Reinhardt mains will surely appreciate.
His biggest defect however is definitely his ultimate: Meteor Strike. It's pretty simple to avoid and lacks the power you would expect from a hero who deals such great damage with just his base-line abilities.
One can only hope that the next addition to the Overwatch team will be in the defensive class. Momma needs a shiny new objective dominator! Hope you're hearing me Blizzard.
Having trouble giving Doomfist a chance on normal multiplayer modes because there is always that one guy who character selects way too quickly? Try out the 6v6 Doomfist elimination mode in the Arcade to give him a play.
