Don't Worry, College IS Where You Find Yourself

I know every person like me felt like they had to have their dream job sorted out by the time they got to college. Personally, I was dead set on being a music teacher or a music therapist, something of the sort, But once college finally came around and it was time for my audition, I was questioning my motives. Why do I want to be a music major? What am I actually going to be doing with music? Can I really make a living doing something like this? Do I even like it?

All of these questions swirled through my head before I even took my first class, so before my freshman orientation, I changed my major. And I've since changed it again. I thought I wanted to be a teacher, and I may still want to teach once I graduate. But now that I have a broader major focus, I can do just about anything I want with it. And I think that's pretty cool.

This isn't meant to be an autobiography on my life by any means, this is just one example of how college doesn't have to be set in stone. Take classes that interest you, you don't have to declare a major from the get go. Learn about what excites you and what motivates you while you're here so that you can pick the career choice that you truly love. Don't settle for something you don't absolutely enjoy because you are the one paying for your education. Make the most of it.

College is where you're not only going to figure out what you want to do with your life, but who you are. It is the ultimate character test. You're all on your own now, making your own decisions and focusing on your studies. This is where your self-accountability will really be in check. Are you doing everything in your power to better yourself and your studies? Are you giving yourself time to relax when you've been really stressed? Learn about how much you can handle and stick to that.

You're here for just a few short years before you get tossed out into the world. You are not going to have it all figured out yet, I promise. No one does. Just go with the flow and you'll figure everything out in time, don't be worried that you have to have it all sorted right now.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
