It's a new year. That means it's time for a new me, a new you, a new outlook on life, surrounded by new goals... right?
I mean, sure. But it doesn't have to be that way.
Why wait for a new year to get change started in your life? Who said a new year was the appropriate time for that?
Why can't I make change now? Why can't I make change in my life in the middle of the afternoon on some sunny day in July?
Why can't change occur at any time?
The book of Lamentations in the Bible tells us that God's mercies are new every morning. His mercies never run out. They are continually made new, and as a result, we are continually being made new.
In fact, 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"
I don't see anything in there about making sure the calendar has run out before you can become a new creation.
Don't get me wrong; I think it's admirable that people wish to make a difference in their lives at the start of a new year. It's a great opportunity to say, "That may have been how it was in 2016, but not in 2017!"
It's a fresh start, a clean slate.
I just don't see why we can't do that every day. Why we can't do it every hour. Why we can't do it every minute.
So don't wait for a new year to become who He has made you to be. Do it right now.
