When we think of the Confederate Flag we think of the usual "X," but in fact that one is actually the battle flag for the Confederacy. Either way any of the Confederate Flags have strong symbolization of the time period that still show themselves in today's society. Its not that I don't respect people dying to make history of this country. I am proud to be an American and to have the freedom that I do, but I think we should encourage further generations to do more research into our history than just believing what they learn from a text book.

The Confederate Flag or battle flag, came about when the United States at the time we divided into two. Why now should we support something that divided our country, when we should unify ourselves to become better than where we were yesterday? The United States is somewhere where so many people have new opportunities, and we should be able to support one another in the economy and with love and friendship. Let's continue to grow this country into an even better one than it already is, instead of continuing to separate from different entities.

This was also a time of a large racial issue: slavery and the KKK. The separation of the Union and the Confederacy was due to the South continuing to want slavery and segregation. I don't want to support a flag our a concept that continues to belittle anyone of color or religion. It being the 21st century we should move passed these hurtles and learn to see into another person's eyes instead of racially profiling someone. I think the flag can be inconsiderate to those who have worked so hard to get to where they are today. These men and women were seen as 3/5ths of a human. At the time it wasn't seen as Unconstitutional, but now there is no question about it.

Let's not even begin on the women's rights. During this time period, women we supposed to be at home with the children and had to have all the house work done, and feed their husbands after a day of work. Women also did not have the right to vote, or even speak or have an opinion really. While the Confederate Flag does not direct itself towards women, having it indicates the support of the time period and what were the social norms.

This flag should not be called a piece of pride, because it belittles those whom did not have rights. Not knowing these factors should be crucial for any American, we should NOT ignore these issues, they are our current issues. So lets wake up as American's and get educated.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
