Spring break is usually the time where students “wild out.” They go on vacations with their friends and get as wasted as possible to forget about the amount of school work they were drowning in the week before. Even the students who don’t get to go on a vacation during spring break usually take the break to forget about their school work and catch up with their friends from home. But what happens when students return from spring break?
A few professors of mine have recently brought “the itis” to my attention. “The itis” is very similar to “senioritis,” but it applies to all students instead of just seniors. It is when students return from spring break and start to become careless about their school work. As a student, I can understand how this happens. It is hard to get back to the books after being stress free for a week. But, for our GPAs, we have to overcome “the itis.”
During the first week back to school from spring break, make sure you stay well rested. If you went on a crazy vacation, it’s safe to say you didn’t get much sleep and it’s hard to do well in school when you’re not well rested. Make it a point to catch up on your sleep when you’re back at school. It’s hard to do efficient work without it.
Plan ahead! Take a few minutes to plan out your schedule of the week. You probably have a million and one assignments due now that you’re back from break. Make sure you properly set up your time to complete all of them so that you’re not stressed out, scrambling to get it all done last minute.
Last but not least, avoid “the itis.” Don’t let your one week of freedom drive you to a lousy GPA. A break is meant to give you a breather, not ruin all your hard work. Remember, you worked hard for two months before this break! Make sure that it was for a reason.
